**Position **summary**

This position will report to the research manager in charge of our Just Energy Transition business practice but have regular engagement and interaction with the Managing Director for this business practice who drives the firm's work in this area and its external engagements. There will be close collaboration with other parts of our business including our impact and social economy practice.

**Key **responsibilities**

**Conduct **comprehensive research: Dive deep into the various facets of the just energy transition, encompassing policy analysis, market reforms, funding strategies, sustainability, and climate reporting, including topics related to sustainable finance and impact investing. This will include tracking and understanding developments and explaining them to clients.

**Collaborate and influence**: Work alongside the research team to craft and deliver high-quality reports, policy briefs, monthly periodicals and presentations that influence and inform stakeholders.

**Engage with decision makers**: Engage directly with high-level decision-makers in both public and private sectors, delivering expert advice and insights on just energy transition and related sustainability issues.

**Research proposals and project development**: Identify and contribute to the development of new research proposals and projects, seeking opportunities to broaden the organisation's impact within the just energy transition and sustainability sectors.

**Sustainability and ESG **strategy advisory: Guide organisations and asset managers on integrating sustainability, climate change, and JET relevant ESG strategies into their operations and investment decisions.

**Sustainable finance and impact investing**:Develop strategies and frameworks for sustainable finance and impact investing with a focus on the just energy transition, identifying opportunities for investments that yield environmental, social, and financial returns.

**Just transition finance mechanism advisory**: Provide expert advice and support on financial mechanisms that promote a just transition, focusing on equitable and sustainable economic development.

**Stakeholder** engagement advisory and support: Facilitate and enhance engagement with key stakeholders, providing strategic advice to ensure alignment with sustainability and impact investment goals.

**Climate **reporting advisory: Offer guidance on sustainability and climate reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability in environmental impact.

**Qualifications and experience**

**Experience**: At least five years of relevant experience in research, policy analysis, or consulting, focusing on energy transition, climate policy, sustainable finance, and impact investing.

**Knowledge **base: Broad understanding of the just energy transition, sustainability, climate change, ESG considerations, and the principles of sustainable finance and impact investing.

**Education**: An advanced degree (post graduate or higher) in economics, sustainability, environmental sciences, or a related field with a strong quantitative and financial analysis component.

**Communication **skills: Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written materials, proficiency in Excel, and exceptional presentation skills.

**Deep **understanding: A profound grasp of South Africa's political economy, the intricacies of the just energy transition and a global perspective on sustainability and investment.

**Engagement in **sustainability: A strong commitment to sustainability, climate change mitigation, and the role of finance and investment in driving systemic change.
