Agricultural Economist

SAPPA currently has an exciting career opportunity for an Agricultural Economist (Information Officer) who will take responsibility for obtaining, processing and publishing production and market information.

**Duties will include the following**:

- Establishing and maintaining information systems, data and key economic perspectives including benchmarks
- Obtaining and analysing international and local demand, supply and inventory information
- Analysing and projecting cultivations and trends
- Obtaining and analysing international price information
- Providing support to the Marketing Committee
- Driving trade and market development initiatives and submissions
- Liaising with various role players in the industry, specifically producers, processors and growers
- Attending to Agricultural Economic inquiries
- Preparing newsletters, information documents and reports
- Engaging in research and development of perspectives regarding trade policy and legislation
- Providing assistance with the compilation and evaluation of holistic business plans for producers
- General day-to-day administration

**Requirements**:

- Bachelors or Honours degree in Agricultural Economics
- Professional understanding of Agricultural Economic terms and concepts
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills
- Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher
- Good organising and planning skills
- Administrative aptitude
- Ability to work independently and take own initiative
- Professional communication skills (English and Afrikaans)
- Willingness to travel from time to time
