**Job Advert Summary**:
Rand is currently looking for a Legal Manager to provide effective and efficient management of Legal-Operations concentrating on property law, environmental law, and any other operational related matters, knowledge and management of contracts in the Legal Operations space, development of protocols and guidelines for Legal Operations, providing legal advisory services and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks of the Legal - Operations Department.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Appropriate legal qualification (LLB/, B.Proc LLB/with LLM an advantage)
- Admitted as an Attorney
- At least 8 years legal experience, ideally in a leading organisation with a minimum of 2 years Management experience (including management of budgets)
- Proven track record of providing accurate and effective legal advice
- Proven track record of adding value to an organisation through comprehensive and effective management of property, water and environmental related legal matters
- Knowledge of Contract Management
- Proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting

**Primary Duties**:

- Provide strategic leadership and ensure efficient and effective management of resources and staff within Legal-Operations
- Review and provide legal advice on all property, water and environmental laws/matters
- Liaise with relevant business units to ensure that, where legal risks have been identified, appropriate mitigation strategies have been put into place
- Provide legal protection and risk management to Business Units being served, including drafting and presenting reports to Rand Water’s Top Management Committee, Executive Committee and the Board of Rand Water on property, water, and environmental matters
- Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training and disseminate legal requirements to organisation on matters of the Operations Portfolio
- Implement and maintain a legal risk register and mitigation strategy in all areas of Legal Operations
- Draft and review policies and advice Management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures related to property, water and environmental matters
- Draft and review all relevant agreements/documents pertaining to Legal-Operations and ensure that they follow all statutory and/or legal requirements
- Manage litigious matters within the Legal Operations portfolio and review progress of outstanding litigation and liaise with and manage external attorneys
- Advice management of prospects of success, settlement proposals based on financial feasibility
- Formulate compliance checklists and continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations on property law, water laws, and environmental laws, etc. and advice management accordingly
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Legal-Operations Department for Executive Management meetings
- Review contracts or any other legal documents within the sphere of property, water supply and environmental matters and where the organisation has committed itself and further assess legal implications that need to be brought to the Executive Management’s attention.
- Provide continuous leadership, supervision, training and development of Legal-Operations department staff ensuring and effective and motivated team
