Mirabilis a subsidiary of Santam has a position available for a Chief Operating Officer who will be based in Rosebank, Johannesburg.

What Will You Do?

**The main purpose of the job is**:
Provide management to staff and leadership to the organization that aligns with the company’s business plan and overall strategic vision.
Assist executive team members in creating, growing and building a world class, industry leading organization.
Drive company results from both an operational and financial perspective working closely with the CFO, CEO and other key executive team members.
Partner with the CFO to achieve favourable financial results with respect to sales, profitability, cash flow, systems, reporting and controls.
Set challenging and realistic goals for growth, performance and profitability.
Create effective measurement tools to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes.
Provide accurate and timely reports outlining the operational condition of the company.
Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
Works with managers on budgeting, forecasting and resource allocation programs.
Work closely with senior management team to create, implement and roll out plans for operational processes, internal infrastructures, reporting systems and company policies all designed to foster growth, profitably and efficiencies within the company.
Motivate and encourage employees at all levels as one of the key leaders in the company including but not limited to professional staff, management level employees and executive leadership team members.
Forge strategic partnerships and relationships with all interested parties.
Foster a growth oriented, positive and encouraging environment while keeping employees and management accountable to company policies, procedures and guidelines.
Underwriting of both local and international engineering business
Organising and conducting surveys of large/complex engineering risks for clients, including preparing internal and external reports (if required).
Assessing individual risks, evaluating and providing terms and conditions in accordance with the applicable underwriting authority, underwriting guidelines and internal directives
Ensuring that risk acceptance is aligned with company goals and company and group strategies.
Developing and growing a sustainable book of business and exploiting new business potentials through active development of relationships with clients.
Developing innovative insurance solutions and products in addition to conventional covers in close cooperation with other Santam business units - "can do mind-set”.
Overseeing and assisting with Annual Treaty renewal.

**Key Functions**:
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will be in charge of operations within the company. This would include building and developing capabilities and supporting the development of the company.

Qualifications and Experience

At appointment
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
MBA from Top Business School Preferred
Preferably 5-10 years of executive level operational experience required.
Ideally 5+ years at the COO level is preferred
Exceptional executive presence, business acumen and presentation skills.
Budgeting and/or financial focused mindset helpful.
Minimum 5 years Engineering Underwriting Experience
Experience in International Markets will be an advantage
FAIS Fit and Proper Compliant
FAIS Representative
**Computer Literacy**: Microsoft Office
Valid driver’s license
Valid Passport

Subsequent to Appointment
Engineering / Commercial Insurance training both formal and “on the job” resulting in sound technical underwriting capability
Comprehensive understanding of insurance legislation
Training on advanced engineering insurance products
Fully Vaccinated

Personal Qualities

Strong team player, business acumen, entrepreneurial mind-set
Excellent negotiating / communication and social skills
Ability to work under pressure and managing a high work load
Ability to organise and prioritise work
Provides quality customer service (both internally and external)

Travel Required
