**Job Overview**:
The Drill Rig Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Sandvik DP1500i Pantera drill rig, ensuring the accurate drilling of blast holes in line with production targets and safety standards. This role requires a strong understanding of surface drilling operations, experience with top hammer rigs, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Drill Rig Operation**:

- Set up, align, and operate the Sandvik DP1500i Pantera drill rig to drill blast holes as per the drilling plan.
- Monitor drilling performance and adjust parameters to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
- Handle drill rods safely and efficiently during operations, ensuring the proper insertion and removal.
- **Production Targets**:

- Achieve daily and weekly drilling targets as set by the site manager, ensuring that all blast holes are drilled to the required depth and diameter.
- Work closely with blasting teams to ensure coordination between drilling and blasting activities.
- **Equipment Maintenance**:

- Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance on the drill rig, including hydraulic systems, lubrication, and inspecting the rock drill.
- Identify and troubleshoot any mechanical issues that arise during operation, reporting significant problems to maintenance teams or supervisors.
- **Safety Compliance**:

- Follow all safety procedures during operation, ensuring the safety of the crew and equipment.
- Perform pre-operation safety inspections and ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Handle and store explosives in compliance with safety regulations.
- **Reporting and Communication**:

- Maintain accurate logs of drilling activities, including performance data, equipment usage, and any downtime.
- Report progress to the Site Manager and collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient workflow.

**Requirements**:

- **Qualifications**:

- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Certification or training in operating surface drill rigs (advantageous).
- Valid Code 8 or 10 driver’s license.
- **Experience**:

- 3-5 years of experience operating top hammer drill rigs, particularly the Sandvik DP1500i Pantera or similar models.
- Experience in hard rock or open-pit mining environments.
- Knowledge of drilling safety standards and procedures.
- **Skills & Competencies**:

- Strong understanding of drilling techniques and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and conduct basic repairs.
- Excellent attention to detail and safety-conscious.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
