**Position Overview**
The Elementary School Counselor plays a vital role in the development of learners’ social, emotional, and academic growth from PK to G5. The Counselor works in partnership with all members of the community to promote and foster positive working relationships in the best interests of children’s learning, providing support and guidance for families when necessary. The Elementary Counselor works closely with AISJ team members and families to develop the social and emotional well-being of learners. In working directly with the Principal, the Counselor implements efficient and effective systems to ensure learners’ social, emotional, and academic needs are met. AISJ is dedicated to providing a student-centered, collaborative, and transdisciplinary approach to learning. Such an approach will best prepare and empower students to become responsible lifelong learners and competent, compassionate individuals.
The Elementary Counselor is a member of the Elementary Leadership Team (ELT) in the capacity of Learning Leader (Inclusion Services). This non-evaluative leadership role supports the processes involved in team collaboration, communication, coordination, planning, development, and execution of the Elementary Schools’ curricula experiences. The Elementary Counselor models, mentors, monitors, supports, and encourages team members to grow as professionals and as educators.
**Qualifications **and Experience**:
- Experience leading the review and implementation of child protection policies and procedures
- K-5 (minimum) license or certification in counseling with a master’s degree
- 5 years (minimum) experience as an Elementary School Counselor
- Experience working and leading with an elementary, international school setting
- Experience working and leading within an Adaptive School
- Experience working and leading within professional learning communities
- Recent and relevant professional development in the field of counseling
- Experience in and commitment towards working and leading in a multicultural environment
- Experience in implementing Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum
- Experience and expertise in running effective family education workshops
- Experience in working with social/emotional and behavioral challenges, disorders, and disabilities
- Experience leading the interpretation of educational psychological assessments and academic assessments
- Knowledge of learning disabilities and learning differences, including intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Experience in implementing academic support as it relates to the above profile.
- Experience in creating and following through with functional behaviour assessments and behaviour support plans

- Coordinate and lead Child Protection Training, workshops, and lessons for the Elementary community and beyond
- Work collaboratively with the principal to actively develop the social and emotional well-being of learners, educators, and families within the Elementary community
