Fixed-term contract - Coastal Community Incubation Lead

**Who we are**:
OceanHub Africa (OHA) is on a mission to enable African-based ocean ventures with the express aim of nurturing an environmentally conscious and profitable economy for a sustainable and equitable ocean.

Coastal Communities Incubations (CCI) are funded capacity building programs strengthening and promoting community-led ocean enterprises that contribute to resilient livelihoods while conserving nature. The programs are designed and adapted to local contexts, and act as a driver of sustainable development through grassroots level ocean ventures with a financially viable model and a potential to scale by providing them with trainings, network, coaching and seed-funding.

Particular attention and priority are usually given to ventures that:

- Demonstrate a strong **gender and/or youth** transformative approach
- Demonstrate a strong **ocean health** regenerative potential
- Have strong potential to promote **ocean knowledge** and stewardship
- Are geared towards improvement of vulnerable populations’ livelihood (**ocean equity**)
- Focus on **ocean wealth** sectors such as fishing, aquaculture and seafood farming, horticulture (plant-based agriculture), coastal tourism and ocean sports, mangrove, coral or seagrass conservation activities, among others
- Are eligible to existing funding mechanisms: Global Fund for Coral Reef, Blue Natural Capital Financing Facility, Global Environmental Fund, Climate Adaptation Lab, etc.

**The role of Coastal Communities Incubation Lead**:
Coastal Community Incubation:

- Adapt and deliver blue entrepreneurship capacity building programs to coastal communities across Africa
- Continuously improve and update training curriculum and material
- Support operationally the disbursement of grant / seed funding to beneficiaries of CCIs (in collaboration with OHA’s Business Finance Specialist)
- Ensure highest standards in client/donor relations of CCI
- Support operationally short, mid and long term Measurement and Evaluation (in collaboration with OHA’s Project Associate and IMM Lead)
- Support operationally communication and promotion of CCIs, including in social media, events and the press (in collaboration with OHA’s Communication and Events Associate)
- Contribute to identify and support the development of a pipeline of projects for OHA’s acceleration and venture studio programs, requiring from time to time to act as “Entrepreneur in Residence” for specific coastal community projects
- Generate new leads and research prospective opportunities for CCI programs across Africa
- Lead the drafting of proposals for CCIs’ capacity building projects

Community of Practice Coordination:

- Build and grow a Community of Practice around CCIs, including the recruitment and training of at least 8 consultants (or organisations’ representatives) across Africa for on-field support of CCIs (with the support of OHA’s COO)
- Administrate and coordinate the Community of Practice through knowledge management, sustained communications, thought leadership and regular meetings of members of the Community of Practice
- Develop, grow and maintain a network of experts around the Community of Practice
- Coordinate and consolidate short, mid and long term measurement and evaluation
- Organise an annual in-person convening of the Community of Practice (during Ocean Innovation Africa Summit)

Other occasional responsibilities:

- Support in strategy and management consulting jobs of OHA, especially regarding blue entrepreneurship development in Africa
- Support with ad hoc tasks associated with OceanHub Africa’s mandate and general activities

**Job specifications**:
OHA is looking for a Coastal Communities Incubator Lead on an initial fixed term contract to: 1) maintain the leadership position of OHA in its ecosystem, 2) actively lead the organisation’s impact development on ocean equity, 3) build the pipeline for OHA’s accelerator and ocean venture studio, 4) deliver on OHA’s Blue Economy consultancy missions as well as thought leadership.
