**Job Description**:

- The Diamond Studies Laboratory is a key enabler for the delivery of our ambition as it provides data required to assess target areas, new discoveries, deposits, and resource extensions.

The purpose of the Diamond Specialist is to deliver diamond information and data to enable De Beers Exploration and the Mines to make informed techno-economic decisions, and collaborate with other specialists to deliver on key innovation and diamond research projects.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Acquire diamond data and provide diamond insights to support Exploration decision making and provide recommendations.
- Integrate diamond data with other datasets in collaboration with other specialists/stakeholders to assist in the evaluation of the economic potential of diamond deposits.
- Compile, analyze and integrate existing diamond and related information from approved repositories, including historical documents, commercial and public domain sources, to reach conclusions and make recommendations to inform decision making.
- Identify and undertake value-adding research projects (internal and external) and present findings to stakeholders.
- Provide laboratory analysis and project documentation support to the Technical Manager: Diamond Studies Laboratory and Diamond Lead/Principal: Diamonds.
- Demonstrate safety, health and environmental leadership aligned to the De Beers and Anglo American policies and standards.
- Manage self to ensure continued growth and to create/use platforms whereby technical knowledge is exchanged within the wider De Beers Exploration environment promoting synergies between stakeholders.
- Develop internal and external networks to assist and enhance the delivery of projects.
- Qualifications
- BSc Honors in Earth/Chemical Sciences.
- MSc/PhD would be an added advantage.
- Professional Registration (e.g., Pr Eng.; Pr. Sci. Nat).

**Role-specific knowledge and experience**:

- Relevant diamond exploration experience within a specialist role (MSc study in diamond studies would be considered equivalent).
- Working experience in a mineralogical laboratory environment.

Diamond knowledge:

- Diamond characterization techniques: e.g., FTIR, SEM, breakage analysis, diamond surface features, isotopic studies.
- Diamonds, kimberlites and mantle petrology
- Diamond exploration techniques and stages of work.
- Geological sampling techniques, kimberlite treatment processes and concentration methods.
- KPCs and diamond legislation.
- Applied geology and geostatistics.
