The main purpose of the role is to provide counselling to participants enrolled on clinical trials of ART, PrEP, TB or vaccines. This includes counselling participants on the Informed Consent process, administering trials related questionnaires to participants and performing administrative work in support of the unit.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Grade 12 Certificate, with HIV counselling certification
- At least 2-years experience working within a research or community health environment
- At least 2-years experience in counselling including adherence counselling for people on antiretroviral therapy
- Knowledgeable of HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Fluency in English and isiXhosa
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Maintain confidentiality
- Administration skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the clinic team
- Client-focused attitude

**Advantageous**:

- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or GCP Certificate
- ATTIC or other formal counselling training

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist in recruitment of eligible participants and the informed consent process for clinical trials
- Provide information to participants about clinical trials based on informed consent forms
- Conduct assessments of understanding to ensure participants comprehend the informed consent documents.
- Conduct pre and post-test counselling for HIV testing, adherence counselling for participants on ART and risk reduction counselling for participants on PrEP
- Contact clients telephonically to conduct interviews or recall to the unit
- Assist with retention efforts as per protocol
- Report to the Project Coordinator any adverse events and/or serious adverse events
- Assist with filing research forms and patient files
- Obtain and update participant locator forms at all visits
- Assist with translation for the clinical team as required
- Capture information correctly onto electronic devices
- Conduct data collection activities with participants, including questionnaires
- Maintain strict client confidentiality
- Ensure all participants who access the services complete biometric registration as per guidelines/SOP’s
- Ensure all participants receive and sign data sharing ICF forms
- Capture/Register new participant on the PIPER and process reimbursement for trial participants
- Identify and escalate any participant related issues where necessary
- Assist in reviewing translated study related materials and provide feedback
- Attend all study trainings
