The main purpose of this position in the Financial Markets Department (FMD) of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), is to provide an accounting support service for the foreign exchange (FX) reserves and domestic market operations in accordance with the South African Reserve Bank Act 90 of 1989 (SARB Act) and relevant accounting standards.
Detailed Description
Engage in short
- term planning and perform tasks against work plans as defined in conjunction with the supervisor.
- Perform work independently within the established practices and given certain processes, rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with the accounting standards, relevant legislation, policies and other guidelines, including the operational notice used for domestic market operations.
- Identify, evaluate and solve defined, routine and new problems within a familiar context.
- Ch e c k th e accuracy o f m ode ls b u i lt/ u t i l i s e d b y f in an c ial m a rk e t s p e ci a l i s t s.
- Perform treasury accounting duties and reconciliations in accordance with the relevant accounting standards, ensuring accurate and timeous transactions.
- Prepare and provide information related to transactions within a defined context to relevant stakeholders.
- Perform general administration tasks, including the preparation of payment instructions, data-capturing and record-keeping in order to ensure the continued smooth running of the section’s operations.
- Engage with the relevant stakeholders/clients within the SARB as well as external parties, displaying a service orientation in own work and the ability to handle queries and explain information fluently.
- Proactively broaden knowledge of own functional area and financial instruments, displaying a willingness to make improvements in own work (including methods and practices).
- Evaluate own performance against the given criteria, and identify and address task-specific learning needs.
Job Requirements
at least an NQF level 5 or equivalent qualification in Accounting;
- two to five years’ work-related e x pe r i en ce in a financial services environment, specifically in the accounting area; and

Additional requirements include having knowledge of and experience in working with:

- accounting of financial instruments;
- financial markets ; and
- relevant legislation.
