**CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER**

Our client is a large independent insurance broker in Johannesburg. They are looking for an energetic senior finance professional (CA SA) to join their Exco.

**Minimum Requirements**

Formal qualification(s):

- Senior certificate (NQF4) or the equivalent
- BCom Hons in Accounting and Registered CA

**Legal requirements**:

- Valid code B driver’s license and own transport
- Passed credit and criminal checks
- S.A Citizen

**Understanding**:

- Understand business ethics and values.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
- Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software (e.g. VIP)
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and people skills
- An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
- Knowledge of strategic planning and management skills
- Knowledge of transformation and change management principles
- In-depth understanding of policy conceptualisation, analysis and implementation

**Experience**:

- Minimum of 8 years experience in the accounting field post articles.
- 4 years experience in senior management
- Experience in partnering with an executive team

**GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB**
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company, to include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

**KEY TASKS PER OUTPUT**
Work output 1: Financial Management
- Determine and compile the annual departmental budget in collaboration with the Financial Manager.
- Implement, control and manage the departmental resources and procedures within approved budget guidelines.
- Compile and present budget reports regarding expenditure to keep the EXCO appropriately informed of the department’s budget position.
- Approve all agreements concerning financial obligations.
- Reconcile fuel, travel and other departmental expenses.
- Report financial results to the board members

Work output 2: Business Process Management

Governance
- Enforce Company policies and departmental procedures.
- Enforce Company structure and reporting lines.
- Enforce Company business ethics and values.
- Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry.
- Oversee that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and non-disclosure of confidential information.
- Strategically develop and implement a roadmap for the implementation of the POPIA Act and its specific regulations.

**Strategy**
- Interpret and execute the Company’s strategy into a departmental plan with specific objectives and targets and communicate it to the team.
- Compile, implement and enforce departmental procedures in support of the business strategy.
- Evaluate and optimise departmental systems and procedures in support of the business plan/strategy.
- Ensure that the organisational structures and processes contribute to the achievement of the Company’s goals and objectives.
- Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.

**Planning**
- Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
- Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans.
- Develop financial and tax strategies.
- Manage the capital request and budgeting processes.
- Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction.

**Operational**
- Present the Company at public functions, events or external meetings.
- Conduct and chair departmental meetings.
- Compile and present reports at EXCO meetings.
- Drive the company’s financial planning.
- Participate in key decisions as a member of the EXCO team.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions.
- Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
- Implement operational best practices.
- Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package.
- Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions.
- Perform risk management by analysing the organization’s liabilities and investments.
- Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile.
- Decide on investment strategies by considering cash and liquidity risks.
- Oversee that a fraud prevention plan is implemented and operational.
