**Role Summary**

The Senior pharmacist will be responsible for the provision of medication and supplementary services to patients and members of the healthcare team.

The incumbent will also assume responsibility for meeting patients’ needs in a responsible, satisfactory and cost-effective manner.

**KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**

Dispensing in and outpatient prescriptions.

Provision of a drug information service.

Assisting in ethical stock ordering, stock control and stock counts.

Assisting with the quality and clinical initiatives

To assist with training of Pharmacist Assistants and Interns.

Implementation of controls to enforce GPP and SOPs to minimise risks.

Maintaining effective relationships with key role players.

Communicating professionally and handling queries as per policy.

Assisting with stock take, stock control and expired stock removal from shelves.

Responsible for Balancing of S6 book in March, June, September and December and all scripts and invoices documentation and noted.

Administrative tasks.

Tidiness of Pharmacy.

To be on call.

Rotation between retail and hospital

Rotation on all tasks involved with Schedule 5&6 medication

Will be required to work some weekends and public holidays

Assist with all aspects of ethical stock control including: re-ordering of stock, maintaining dedicated stock areas for organisation and expiry dates and conducting cyclical and full stock takes

Implement and maintain pharmaceutical evaluation (clinical ward round) of hospital In-patients as per Hospital Clinical Ward Round specifications, with special care to geriatrics, paediatric, neonates, ICU and high care patients

Complete clinical ward rounds regularly in accordance with hospital needs and resources available

Document and capture all ward round queries

Ensure pharmaceutical evaluation (clinical ward round) with respect to individualised medication regimens, continuous therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical intervention, pharmaco-dynamic and pharmacokinetic consultation

Clinical ward rounds should include special focus on Antibiotics usage, high alert drugs and feeds

Clinical ward rounds must also assist and offer advice on the usage, side effects, contra-indications and storage of medication to patients and other members in the healthcare team

Responsible for and overseeing all aspects of medication safety in entire hospital

**EDUCATION**

Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council

B. Pharm degree

Intermediate computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 2 years hospital experience advantageous

Training, teaching and skills development experience, and ability to manage staff
