The main purpose of this position is to develop plans and oversee strategic engagement with stakeholders and community partners (i.e., Provincial and District-level Departments of Health; AIDS Councils; local PEPFAR partners; community advisory boards; community-based partners; etc.). This will include strategically managing relationships with stakeholders and community partners, and to establish and maintain reporting and feedback mechanisms to all relevant structures. The incumbent will manage a team of Community Liaison Officers responsible for coordinating Community Advisory Boards (CABs) and community engagement activities for specific projects.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Grade 12 Certificate with a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and Social Sciences Qualification or related field
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ demonstrable experience, in a leadership role (coordination or management), performing:

- Stakeholder management
- Community engagement
- Experience in managing staff
- Minimum of 3 years existing and demonstrable relationships with key stakeholders in Eastern Cape Province
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ progressive, demonstrable experience implementing, engaging with and facilitating Community Advisory Boards (CAB)
- Must have demonstrable understanding of the stakeholder and community structures in the Eastern Cape
- Demonstrable experience in developing strategic plans to engage communities based on study protocols
- Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Express
- Must be fully fluent in Xhosa (speaking, reading and writing)
- Valid code 8 driver’s license
- Must live in or be willing to relocate to East London
- Excellent interpersonal and communications (written and verbal) skills
- Strong public speaking skills
- Lateral creative thinking & detail orientated
- Team player, as well as the ability to work independently
- Decision making & analytical skills
- Planning, attention to details and organising skills,
- Adaptive to change
- Ability to multi-task and Negotiation skills

**Advantageous**:

- Post-graduate certificate in health-related field
- Currently engaged in or completion of a Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion or Communications, Community Development, or related field
- Project management training qualification and/or experience
- Track record of community development projects
- Extensive stakeholder networks and relationships
- Experience in community awareness campaigns
- Demonstrable experience engaging with Traditional Authority Leaders
- Project management training qualification and/or experience
- Strong social media skills
- Knowledge of research methodology

**Responsibilities**:

- Establish and maintain strong relationships with provincial, district and local stakeholders as well as relevant civil society, academic and community structures
- Based on Good Participatory Practice guidelines and best practices, develop and action strategic plans for community engagement in support of study needs
- Ensure that DTFH-EC is appropriately represented at relevant meetings and platforms, and support expansion of DTHF-EC’s visibility, outputs, and values
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement and relationships of project teams at ground level when and where required
- Organize and manage feedback activities for all DTHF-EC projects via meetings and written reports to relevant stakeholders and community structures.
- Develop support for DTHF-EC research programs in line with the district, provincial and national HIV/AIDS and TB programming.
- Ensure that TB/ HIV/ Mental Health features prominently in the research agenda within the civil society component of SANAC
- Support linkages between TB/ HIV/ Mental Health research and advocacy through local and provincial forums.
- Facilitate, participate in & monitor special events and outreach activities in support of DTHF-EC and collaborator research studies
- Oversee stakeholder management plan that includes a stakeholder and community mapping exercise; maintain an up-to-date stakeholder contact database which is accessible by all DTHF-EC teams.
