Lab Manager

**Lab Manager**

The laboratory manager oversees the daily functioning of the lab.

He/she must be a suitably qualified person with sound knowledge of lab operations in a chemical manufacturing environment and must be versatile and able to multi-task.

He/she must be au fait with industry standards and safety regulations.

Specific tasks and responsibilities include the following:

- Ensure the workplace is always neat and clean
- Ensure health and safety standards are in place, and implemented
- Conduct QC testing on production batches in process
- Manage and maintain the process for retention sampling
- Calibrate laboratory equipment and maintain the register
- Maintain and replenish laboratory reagents, glassware and other utensils
- Ensure lab equipment is in good clean working order at all times
- Test and monitor water quality on a daily basis
- Ensure customer complaints are handled and resolved in the shortest possible time
- Assist with monthly stock take
- Analyse re-order reports, produce and process job cards
- Ensure that all information (eg formulations, job cards, etc.) and data collected in the lab, is kept safe
- Conduct daily meeting with Production staff
- Take responsibility for the Production Planning Board and ensure it remains up-to-date at all times
- Conduct spot checks on the weighing of raw materials and mixing procedures in the Production plant, and ensure accuracy
- Conduct training needs for lab and other staff as required
- Assist with internal audits

Assist with R&D work as required
- Evaluate new product prototypes
- Prepare and provide samples
- Establish product specifications and mixing procedures
- Prepare management reports and documentation on all R&D work undertaken

A formal qualification (BSc or HND) in chemistry is required.

3-5 Years experience as lab manager in the chemical manufacturing industry.

Sound understanding and knowledge of quality management systems, and ISO 9001 in particular, will be beneficial.

A working knowledge of Alchemist software will be beneficial.

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Blackheath, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
