Position Purpose:_**
- To provide support and advice to the Company in respect of all Customs and Excise matters that may arise. This includes
Customs Duties (including Diesel Refund and Carbon Tax) optimisation on commercial transactions and assistance
requirements and legislation.
- To ensure legislative compliance relating to all Customs and Excise legislation, through the development of policies and
procedures, monitoring and auditing the implementation thereof and providing advice to the Operating Divisions and the
Corporate Centre on related matters.
- To assist in the implementation of the Company’s taxation strategy in respect of indirect taxes at the Operating Divisions so
as to ensure that the Operating Divisions comply fully with the taxation requirements and legislation.
- To advise the GM: Group Taxation of all unusual/irregular transactions being contemplated by the Operating Divisions, to
ensure that all customs consequences of these transactions are considered proactively and are taken into account in the
agreements.

Position outputs:_**
- Assist and advise the Company regarding customs matters so that the best possible advice and options are provided
- Research and develop customs planning strategies for the Company including new business initiatives and contribute to
the development of the overall tax strategy for the Company
- Assist the Operating Divisions to interpret and integrate customs considerations into their business strategy
- Work with the GM: Group Taxation to develop and implement customs planning opportunities and risk mitigation strategies
for the Company
- Collaborate and coordinate with the Operating Divisions and the whole Tax function so that there is a cohesive standard of
dealing with tax within the Company
- Coordinate and facilitate customs audits and enquiries from tax authorities
- Interpret new customs legislation and implement changes to customs processes and manuals
- Negotiate with SARS (and other tax authorities where required) and National Treasury with regard to customs matters
- Manage the updating (including drafting) of customs Manuals (including TFR and TPT Customs Process and Control
Manuals) and SOP’s

Qualifications & Experience:_**
- B Comm Accounting degree (preferably with articles), or degree in Financial Management, or an admitted attorney is
required.
- A postgraduate qualification in tax (i.e. H Dip Tax) or equivalent will be an advantage.
- At least 12 years working experience in a similar position at a middle to senior management level
- Practical working experience in Customs & Excise.
- Practical working experience in VAT will be an advantage.
- Sound corporate experience is highly recommended.
