Claims Manager: Building at Momentum Insure

**Introduction**

**Role Purpose**

To effectively manage personal lines claims, the processes, procedures, systems and people, in order to maximise gains, minimise losses and costs.

**Requirements**:

- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Leadership or Management Qualification advantageous
- At least 2 years’ of experience at a management level specifically in short-term claims
- Previous experience in legal (recoveries and liabilities), salvage and car hire will be advantageous

**Duties & Responsibilities**

**Operational Management**
- Daily, weekly and monthly monitoring of management information
- Proactively identify and analyse trends to optimize business efficiencies
- Assessing the future departmental needs in a proactive manner
- Regular on the floor involvement and communication with staff encouraged to facilitate operational problem solving and development of processes and procedures
- Identify new opportunities and assessing business viability thereof
- Reporting operational activities on a monthly basis in OPSCO
- Actively looking at ways to drive and improve efficiency and productivity

**Strategic Direction**
- Accountable to ensure implementation of strategy takes place
- Monthly review of strategic plans to ensure appropriateness
- Ensure that strategic objectives of building claims department are set according to company objectives
- Ensure risk controls are embedded and mitigated in day-to-day operations

**Staff Management**
- Pay for Performance Model in place in the department and regular review of the appropriateness and effectiveness of such a model together with the Actuarial team
- Continuous communication with staff with aim of improving their understanding of the model
- Performance reviews conducted and recorded bi-annually with all staff
- Performance discussions held regularly, both formally and informally
- Non-performance issues investigated and resolved speedily
- Incentive programs in place and applied consistently
- Foster a spirit of committed teamwork
- Drive adherence to company values, ethics and codes strongly
- Ensure department focus on EE, diversity and retention issues
- Ensure disciplinary code in place and in use
- Recruitment in line with EE focus and resigned staff replaced speedily (where relevant) by recruiting and appointing the right staff, at the right time, for the right position
- Training (informal and formal) encouraged and supported
- Opportunities for staff development proactively identified and recommended
- Coaching opportunities identified and frequently utilized
- Effective communication (team and department meetings)

**Relationship Management**
- Evidence of an open door policy
- Problem solving assistance provided to staff within a reasonable time

- Delegation of appropriate authority followed
- Monitoring of Effective Communication Processes in Place
- Team-Based Decision Making Encouraged
- Ensure Department and Individual Focus on delivering awesome client and broker service
- Inter-Company, Inter-Department, Specialist Marketing Advisor (SMA) Service Provider relationship building to ensure enduring business liaison
- Intervention, where appropriate, to ensure effective critical problem resolution
- Decision-making after appropriate consultation and within appropriate mandate
- Position of related stakeholders considered
- Clear justification for decisions

- Maintained relations with external parties who add value to the specific department

Financial Discipline- Assist with the development of Department Budget in Line with Strategic Vision
- IDU budget assessed on a monthly basis and variances in Budget questioned and evaluated
- Assessment and Approval of Budgetary Expenses requests from staff
