**_ Position Purpose:_**
- To plan systematic quantifying of risks attached to any process, machine, environment of human activity that may result in

ill-health, injury or loss to any asset or property of National Ports Authority, by identifying, evaluating and controlling all

occupational threats and hazards, where the end result of curtailing/containing such losses is the of profits.
- To co-ordinate all Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) strategies in the Port/SU, enforce adherence to OHS Act and OHS

Policies whilst managing the Port/SU in a sustainable, safe and healthy manner. Develop, implement, improve and

administer processes that complies with TIMS procedures and key performance indicators.

**_ Position outputs:_**

1. Assist in the development, administration and facilitation of occupational health and safety hazards and risk identification

and evaluation process.

2. Ensure the implementation and certification of Occupational Health and Safety Management systems (e.g. ISO 45001

management system and TIMS).

3. Ensure effective implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the Transnet Integrated Management System

(TIMS).

4. Developing and rolling out the occupational health and safety training and awareness programmes/plan and that related

training and education of line management, supervisors and employees are executed.

5. Ensure the roll out of occupational health and safety campaigns to create a culture and climate conducive to participation

and understanding to enhance Occupational Health and Safety management in the port/SU.

6. Participate in the development, review, implement and roll-out of standard operating procedures to promote, encourage

and improve safety based behaviour in the Port/SU.

7. Provide input into the Occupational Health and Safety management budget and where required.

8. Ensure that an effective and efficient claims administration process are implemented and maintained.

9. Ensure that investigation and root causes analyses are performed for all incidents within TNPA business units and

influence the implementation of justified preventative measures through cost benefit analyses.

10. Ensure the accurate and in-date administration of occupational health and safety information, statistics and reports as

required as input to relevant TNPA Port meetings, operational reports, etc.

11. Participate in planning, implementation of effective emergency plans to deal with Port/SU emergency situations.

12. Perform effective oversight function over internal TNPA business units to ensure compliance with existing occupational

health and safety legislation to ensure effective internal control over non-compliance and good corporate governance.

13. Perform oversight over Port Users activities to ensure effective monitoring of compliance in terms of the Ports’ Act within
the jurisdiction of the Port/SU.

14. Assist the Designated Port Licence representative in ensuring an effective and efficient licencing administration process

are maintained.

15. Participate in and monitor planning and / or infrastructure development of existing or new projects in the Port/SU to

ensure the inclusion of occupational health and safety management overview and guidance.

16. Attend and participate various port/SU related governance structure meetings, which you are appointed to, including SHE

Committee, SHE working committee, investigations, projects progress meetings, etc.

17. Liaise with stakeholders, local authorities, private industries and provincial government to ensure compliance with existing

occupational health and safety legislation.

18. Interpretation of all statutory requirements (including resolutions from international bodies / councils) linked to any

operations process for the development of Occupational Health and Safety standards specific to the port/SU.

19. Conduct research for the development of standards, guidelines and procedures in line with international best practice.
