Specialist: Researcher Data and Analytics

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
**Data-analytics**:

- Undertake strategic research projects relating to various facets of fully-online programmes;
- Perform studies on student enrolment and admissions, as well as student success in terms of retention, throughput and graduation rates;
- Develop predictive statistical models for decision-making purposes, and inform decision-making through reports and presentations; and
- Develop models for enrolment planning and forecasting with cognisance of the ‘size and shape’ of the University.

**Financial **management**:

- Develop subsidy models and provide data analytics for return on investment;
- Compile and manage various budgets and financial reports; and
- Oversee operational procurement, acquisitions and supplies processes.

**Statistical **support**:

- Provide quantitative research support to academic and professional staff, as well as selected postgraduate students.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:

- Hons degree in Statistics, or related quantitative discipline;
- Three years’ experience in quantitative research, preferably at a higher education institution;
- Advanced statistical analysis and consultation; and
- Experience in the use of analytical software.

- Statistical analysis, prediction and interpretation;
- The higher education landscape and functioning of a university;
- Development of quantitative solutions;
- Big data;
- Management and maintenance of research databases;
- Communication of scientific results and principles to varied audiences;
- The logical framework, design thinking or similar frameworks to evaluate outcomes and impact;
- Quantitative research methodologies; and
- Student management systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard)

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Statistical analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, Statistica, SAS, Excel Data Analysis Toolpak);
- Data visualisation tools (e.g., Spotfire, PowerBI, Tableau, Pyramid, HEDA);
- Database software (e.g., SQL, PSCS, HEDA, Access);
- MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access);
- Computer literacy;
- English language skills (verbal & written);
- Scientific report writing skills; and
- Organisational & planning skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

- Master’s degree in Statistics, or related quantitative discipline.

The total remuneration package for this position will be as determined by UP remuneration policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
