**Job Advert Summary**:
The eResearch Knowledge Centre (eRKC) within the HSRC employs a group of practitioners and specialists in the areas of information services, geospatial analytics, and digital curation who provide knowledge services to enhance the HSRC’s research capability.

The eRKC is looking to appoint a suitably qualified professional to take on the responsibilities of a Curation Specialist: Research Outputs. The main responsibilities of this position are to, as part of the Digital Scholarship Services team, be accountable for the HSRC’s Research Output Collection by managing the curation of research output publications, ensuring its accessibility and enable its potential impact and digital scholarship services that support the preservation and sharing of research outputs.

The **vision** of the eRKC is to enhance the HSRC’s research capability through innovative information services, geospatial solutions, and digital curation. The **mission** of the eRKC is to be an informed research enabler that provides innovative knowledge services and access to resources that meet the needs of the HSRC’s research community and its stakeholders. This is achieved by
- managing various resource collections and support the use thereof,
- supporting digital scholarship and providing support for organisation wide processes and requirements,
- supporting geospatial analytics in the HSRC, and
- raising awareness about best practices and building capacity in the HSRC.

**Minimum Requirements**:
**Requirements**:
This position requires in-depth knowledge and experience in the area of research output management. A specific skill set that combines scholarship support and experience with the management of research outputs is required. The specific requirements are the following:

- A relevant Master’s degree or equivalent qualification (NQF 9) or a relevant Honour’s degree or equivalent qualification (NQF 8) coupled with additional relevant working experience
- NQF 9: Have at least 5 years’ experience or NQF 8: Have more than 10 years’ experience working in a similar position in an academic / research environment at senior levels, including experience of functioning on a strategic level and overseeing functional areas, experience in the introducing strategic vision.
- A proven track record in digital scholarship support.
- Strong Library and Information Science background, including significant knowledge and understanding of information management and metadata schemas best practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and a strong service orientation which will contribute to cooperative and effective interaction with peers and senior colleagues in the organisation.
- Good planning, organising skills with attention to detail.
- Above average proficiency in speaking and writing English and good presentation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
The following are the key responsibilities for the Curation Specialist: Research Outputs position:

- Comply and adhere to the organisational risk management strategy, tools, practices, and policies for the HSRC as applicable to responsible area.
- Development and maintain policies, procedures and standards related to research output curation.
- Oversee the development of the HSRC’s Research Output collection as per the Outputs Curation SOP and in accordance with the eRKC SLA.
- Oversee the maintenance of the repository by managing scheduled maintenance activities.
- Oversee the research output enquiries in accordance with the eRKC SLA and assist with complex enquiries that non-standard intervention.
- Spearhead the promotion of the use of the collection.
- Manage technologies and systems that enable research output curation and engage with IT and external service providers in this regard.
- Provide management and performance information and engage with auditors around performance information and manage the process in this regard.
- Liaise with researchers concerning outputs publication to enable the achievement of publication performance targets and research impact.
- Raise awareness about best practices and build capacity within the HSRC.
