**Desktop Support Architecture Specialist**
**Location**:Auckland Park / Sandton

Senior IT Support Technician / Architect will be responsible for articulating an architectural vision, conceptualizing architectural approaches, developing and validating the architecture and high level solution design against business requirements and best practices, and guiding and mentoring operational teams on methodologies, processes and best practices according to Enterprise Architecture Framework and methodologies. This will be done in close collaboration with the Senior IT Architecture Specialist.
This individual will deliver IT technical and infrastructure projects and solutions within the standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the architected solutions with specific reference to the desktop environment. Participation on projects is focused on smoothing the transition of projects from development staff to production staff by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle. This individual is accountable for the architectural design, implementation, maintenance and operational activities for the following technologies and supporting systems and solutions:
Desktop environment:

- Active Directory
- Windows Desktop Operating Systems
- Microsoft SCCM
- Information Security and compliance
- Reporting and trend analysis
- Microsoft architecture and solution design
- Project management
- Business continuity and disaster recovery
- WSUS

The individual will be responsible for coordinating desktop and hospital resources to ensure that all approved systems are updated and maintained as required. They will also proactively researches and locate necessary tools and processes to identify and proactively avert troublesome trends as they develop

**Responsibilities**:
Operational excellence
- Architect Desktop IT solutions to meet business requirements.
- Design, Plan, document and lead infrastructure projects; participate in the IT Department's solutions development projects as a system specialist and solution provider, with the overall aim of providing well engineered, secure and integrated solutions.
- Conduct technical evaluations and proofs-of-concept to evaluate software and hardware products from external vendors and report on the solutions as a desktop technical expert and advisor.
- Initiate and implement architecture and design changes, while ensuring that existing infrastructure services are not negatively impacted.
- Design and plan for growth, accommodate for new technologies, and meet business requirements for the IT infrastructure in terms of the enterprise architecture framework.
- Engineering of system related solutions for various projects and operational needs.
- Rebuild existing solutions and configure software, hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures and documentation as required.
- Contribute to and maintain system standards.
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
- Offer first, second and third line technical support for all IT users in terms of resolving issues that have been logged via Sigma or telephonically.
- Maintenance and configuration of existing systems in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of desktop installation and configuration procedures and standards.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration
- Provide second / third tier support for the Desktop support team as well as other departments and business units
- Coordination of resources in order to action and update identified risks that are highlighted via SCCM and / or other technical departments.
- Provide technical support for desktop and related infrastructure environments.
- To assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance of all related IT systems.
- Acts in a troubleshooting capacity remotely and on site as required.

- Interfaces with Information Management Team and IT Technical team to define and create infrastructure services and solutions in line with business requirements
