**Position Overview**:
The CTO provides strategic technical leadership by developing and driving the technical vision of the SpesNet Group. The CTO envisions how technology solutions can be used to further both short
- and long-term business objectives and develops the company’s technical strategy and operating model in partnership with stakeholders in the business.

The CTO in SpesNet is hands-on and oversees the software engineering and infrastructure practices and ensures that the technology team is equipped to deliver on business imperatives through leading and managing all aspects of technology and people. A proven leader with a passion for building high-quality software solutions and teams who can implement the best practices and processes necessary for SpesNet to continue to build the most efficient and high performing systems that enable the business to provide industry-leading solutions for its customers.

The CTO must be able to thrive in a high-pressure environment and be results driven. The CTO is responsible for leading, managing and developing the team with the aim of continuously improving performance and departmental objectives. In addition, the CTO will culture a highly motivated team that is empowered and able to execute against tight delivery plans.

**Essential Job Functions**
- Responsible for the technical vision and implementation of the technical strategy.
- Alignment with the business product strategy, the technology architecture and roadmap within the boundaries of the business’ vision, goals and priorities.
- Responsible for the Group’s technological needs as well as research and development of new technologies and practices.
- Ownership of the Group’s technology offerings and the development, maintenance, enhancement and relevance of software
- and technology-related products that are marketed to external and internal customers.
- Engage with customers at a senior level to understand their needs, scope their requirements and create capacity to meet such requirements as well as assisting in securing business opportunities and delivering on the required projects and products.
- Implementation and continuous improvement of an SDLC Operating Model to effectively deliver against a planned roadmap and business priorities.
- Build, manage and improve the Software Engineering practice that encapsulates the build, quality and deployment phases.
- Remain abreast of big data, streaming analytics, cloud and other technologies to drive innovation in the Group.
- Evaluate new technologies and systems with a view of implementing, if there is a business case for it, and same will drive improvement and growth. This will include assessing costs, value and risk of such technologies.
- Utilise technologies to yield a competitive advantage.
- Budget management that is aligned to business planning and strategies and manage expenditure against same.
- Ensure that business process efficiency is optimised with the goal of promoting the productivity of all employees and the Group as a whole.
- Perform cost-benefit analysis and return on investment (ROI) analysis to increase revenue, decrease expenditure and aid in profitability.
- Establish and manage an IT services framework and IT security policies and procedures.
- Develop metrics to monitor the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to enable the assessment of technological performance in all areas.
- Hiring, onboarding, training, managing and mentoring of direct and indirect reports. To aid in the optimisation of the functioning of the Infrastructure and Development areas.
- Be responsible for retention strategies of all infrastructure and development resources, to manage business critical risks and capacity management.
- Lead and develop the team/s to enable continuous improvement and achievement of departmental objectives.
- Motivate and empower team to drive high performance outputs and execution against delivery plans.
- Development and implementation of policies and procedures around the Group’s technologies.
- Engage, build and maintain sound working relationships with various parties - internal and external - including shareholders, board members and employees across various departments and seniority levels.
- Drive engagements at all levels of the Group (employees, stakeholders and customers) to ensure that the Group’s technologies are suitably used / adopted, are appropriate and are driving efficiencies.
- Communication of the technical vision, strategy, roadmap and other areas of responsibilities through documentation and presentations to internal and external audiences as required.
- Oversee and manage the infrastructure environment including the Group’s data, security and networks.

**Skills, Qualifications & Functional requirements**:

- Relevant tertiary and Honours degree in a science related field.
