The Birds and Renewable Energy Project Leader should be dynamic and self-motivated, and capable of providing strategic leadership, mobilising resources, and developing and overseeing projects that support a nature-friendly transition to renewable energy in South Africa.

**Key performance responsibilities include**:

- Provide strategic leadership to BLSA’s Birds and Renewable Energy Project.
- Secure and scale up the financial and other resources needed to support a nature-friendly transition to renewable energy in the medium
- to long-term.
- Line manage, and provide support to, the Birds and Renewable Energy Project staff.
- Establish, grow and maintain strategic collaborations and key partnerships in South Africa and other African countries.
- Establish an Advisory Committee to provide strategic ideas to scale up BLSA’s support of a nature-friendly transition to renewable energy.
- Develop a sustainability plan for BLSA’s Birds and Renewable Energy Project.
- Build capacity of key stakeholders (e.g. project financiers) to understand the risks, opportunities and responsibilities related to renewable energy development and biodiversity conservation.

**Qualifications, experience and requirements**:
**Inherent requirements for the position are**:

- A relevant Bachelor’s degree (e.g. in Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Law, or Commerce) or equivalent qualification (post-graduate qualification would be advantageous).
- A proven track record in successful fundraising, identifying donor prospects, donor cultivation and/or grant writing (including familiarity with international donor requirements e.g. Theory of Change, Logical Framework and similar methodologies).
- Working knowledge of South Africa’s environmental legislation and project financiers’ environmental risk management policies and standards.
- Proven record of excellent stakeholder engagement, including the ability to collaborate with key stakeholders, donors, funders, and government officials.
- Relevant project and other managerial skills, including monitoring and evaluation and financial administration (5 years).
- Superior writing and communication skills (with fluency in English), and ability to interact with diverse audiences.
- Skilful use of the Microsoft Office suite
