**Job Description**:
Position Purpose

The purpose of this position is to ensure total control over the pallet repair plant including the maintenance and the smooth, efficient operation of plant and machinery in accordance with company and Government Regulations and Standards to achieve maximum results.

The successful applicant will be required to manage (with the assistance of 1 foreman) a complement of between 25 and 30 waged staff members to ensure maximum output at acceptable quality standards without any damage to the environment or injury to the employee.

Day to day HR and IR functions to be professionally managed to ensure that employee satisfaction as well as good communication and resolution between management and employees are achieved.

Major/Key Accountabilities
- Production planning and control
- Supervising and motivating of subordinates
- Managing plant cost, production, ensuring high physical throughput.
- Ensuring the plant is fully manned with trained staff on Work and Safety procedures.
- Planning and executing preventative maintenance programs in respect of plant and property.
- Ensuring the OHS Act and Safety procedure are adequately maintained according to Company standards
- Handles general maintenance and repairs timeously and according to laid down procedures
- Procurement of maintenance spares required for the workshop
- Maintaining accurate reporting of production and stock, participating in regular audits
- Maintaining of high quality standards and procedures to meet maximum customer satisfaction
- Carries out all tasks as designated by the National/Regional Operations Management / Plant Manager.

Challenges
- Hours of work : 07h30 to 17h00 Monday to Thursday and 07h30 to 16h00 on Friday
- Working of overtime will be required during the week-up to 10 hours and some Saturday work might be required
- Unionised employees may pose some challenges which may need good IR skill
- Co-operation within other facets of operations such as Maintenance, Yard and Stores
- Work autonomously
- Reducing cost without jeopardizing the integrity of the Companies Health and Safety or repair procedures

**Qualifications**:
Essential: Matric with Production Diploma, Millwright or Electrician trade certificate approved by Dept of Labour

Preferred: Knowledge of Six Sigma will be an added advantage

Experience

3 to 5 years production experience as well as working in a strong unionised environment

3 to 5 years experience in plant maintenance

Skills and Knowledge
- Well developed communication skills (verbal & written)
- A sense of urgency regarding work duties, regarding accuracy and detailed results
- Ability to work successfully in a matrix structure
- Display numeric skills and computer proficiency
- Supervisory skills with an extensive knowledge of Industrial Relations
- Administration of stock levels, raw material usage etc
- A well balanced person who can focus and perform under pressure

Preferred Education

Technical/Professional Qualification - Electrical Engineering

Preferred Level of Work Experience

3 - 5 years
