Accounting Manager

Our client, an Accounting practice is hiring an **Accounting Manager **to manage the bookkeeping and accounting teams and ensure work is delivered to clients at a high standard.
**Location**: Paarl
**Schedule**: Monday - Fridays (office based)
**Salary**: Market related and commensurate with experience
**Reporting to**: Senior Client Manager / Director - Accounting Services

**Responsibilities**:
General
- Manage the bookkeeping and accounting team, including planning, organising, leading and controlling the functions of the team and sees to it that all scheduled jobs are completed on time, within budget and at quality.
- Review the teams work and ensure it for quality.
- Assist less experienced and less qualified team members in completing their tasks and jobs.
- Train and develop the technical skills of your direct reports.
- Have advanced tasks and jobs for attention of the Senior Client Manager to a 90 to 100% completion stage.
- Support the Senior Client Manager in getting work completed. Ensure client needs and requirements are addressed on time.
- Where required, assist the Senior Client Manager with strategic client meetings, client software selection and strategic tax planning and structuring advice
- See to compliance with relevant financial & tax legislation, regulations and policies.
- Stay abreast of new regulations, laws, standards and notes with regards to accounting and tax related matters
- Continuous improvement, development and implementation of processes, procedures, checklists and quality standards and day-to-day operations.
- Plan for operational capacity and business continuity.
- Provide feedback on progress, setbacks and operational contingencies.
- Communicate and internalise company goals to team members
- Attend to routine personnel matters for teams under supervision and sees to the workplace wellbeing of team members.
Management Responsibilities
- Provide overall direction to team and leadership
- Train, provide work direction, and problem-solving assistance for the Accountant and Bookkeeping team.
- Oversee the daily operations of Accounting Team and Bookkeeping Team.
- Supervision and management of the accounting and bookkeeping staff, including hiring, scheduling and assigning work, reviewing performance, and recommends salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations.

**Minimum Requirements**:
- Proficient in Afrikaans and English (Read, Write and Speak)
- Commute daily to office
Qualifications / Accreditations
- SAIPA or SAICA accreditation
- BAcc or equivalent degree
- Post graduate qualification in accounting and/or management - advantageous
Experience
- At least 1 year overseeing and managing staff in an accounting practice environment.
- At least 3-4 years' accounting experience in an accounting practice environment or other.
- At least 1-2 years' bookkeeping experience in an accounting practice environment or other.
- Ability to work with and understand entrepreneurs.
Knowledge
- Understand basic workings of a financials including accounts payable, accounts receivable and stock.
- Basic principles and rules of various tax laws
- Basic / entry level principles of auditing
- Solid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles & best practices
- Basic understanding of client relationship management
- Basic understanding of management principles
Systems
- Microsoft operating system & Microsoft Office 365 product suite including Excel, Word, Outlook
- Software such as: Draftworx, Xero, Quickbooks, Sage Accounting & Payroll, Dext, Hubdoc, etc
