Urgent role for Maintenance Manager with 5+ years of experience in the mining / metallurgical industry, specifically maintaining furnaces, to join the maintenance division of a major smelting plant based in Limpopo.

**Position details**:
Type: Permanent
Reports to: Engineering Manager

Primary Purpose:
To take charge of the maintenance and improvement of the plant to keep the optimum efficiency of the equipment at the optimal cost within the required safety standards, quality requirements and environmental standards. Area of responsibility includes all the engineering installations in the plant.

Job description / core competencies:
To promote a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly operation.

To actively develop participatory and performance orientation mindset amongst the employees in the department.

To develop employees of workshop in compliance with the Employment Equity Act.

To develop and maintain sound inter-department communication.

**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**

Maintenance & methods office.

Manage the overall maintenance of the plant.

Manage the methods department.

Implement, maintain, and update the preventive & condition monitoring maintenance policy.

Ensure that all work done by the department as well as by contractors are performed within the agreed technical specifications as well as time frame.

Continuously organise department to optimize its performance.

Maintain a constructive relationship with the other departments.

Daily update the Engineering Manager on any difficulties encountered during the implementation of department’s activities.

Maintain the plant at an optimum level of maintenance.

Define with foremen daily, the priorities to be given to the work according to the plant situation.

Compile with the Engineering Manager, communicate and emphasize continuously the objectives of the department.

Analyze daily the furnaces logbook to identify problems and organize the relevant corrective actions.

Anticipate the needs & requests of working partners through a detailed analysis of all the events encountered.

Draft in conjunction with the Engineering Manager a continuously updated 5 years maintenance plan.

Conduct a daily analysis of any incidents or problems encountered.

Ensure smooth execution of the entire job request.

Establish with the maintenance and methods team the weekly work plan.

Identify, plan, implement and monitor improvement action related to the availability of plant equipment.

Improve the reliability of the equipment in accordance with the end user’s requests.

Implement continuous performance improvement in all domains.

Launch the investigations related to plant failures and draw up in relation with working colleagues a continuous action plan to improve the equipment reliability.

**Safety Quality & Environment**

Ensure that the quality procedures are observed.

Respect through his activities the safety, quality and environment rules established by the plant management in the policy.

Conduct a thorough investigation into each incident that occurred in the department.

Update the maintenance procedures.

Carry out safety audits.

**Training**

Regularly analyse the skill levels of the maintenance workshop personnel.

Establish a training plan that is aligned with the plant requirements.

**Budgets**

Draft a provisional running cost budget for the maintenance of the plant as well as for the department.

Draft in conjunction with the Engineering Manager a list of extraordinary works that need to be implemented.

Continuously monitor the department’s expenses versus budget.

Draft monthly a report of the activities performed by the department.

**Job Qualifications**

BTech/BSc/BEng (Electrical/Mechanical)

GCC (Mines /Factories)

MDP or equivalent
