**Job Purpose**:
The role is responsible for ensuring that the provision of day-to-day operations of medical services related to aviation, occupational and travel medicine and employee wellness service delivery are implemented in an integrated manner. This requires ongoing collaboration, communication, facilitation and coordination of processes between employees, nursing staff, medical officers, departmental managers and sites. Furthermore, the role is responsible to conduct training, assessments and evaluations in line with legislative and company requirements.
**Principal Accountabilities**:
- Promote aviation, occupational, travel medicine and employee wellness programs and strategic priorities
- Triage and coordination of services related to medical incidents and emergencies
- Risk based occupational immunizations including travel medicine services and advice
- Conduct pre-employment medical examinations
- Conduct occupational and aviation health assessments
- Provide health and wellness education to employees
- Facilitate work related injury management
- Provide employee referrals to PHC and specialist care as required
- Ensure appropriateness of medical services invoiced by external service providers to operational departments
- Ensure adequacy and appropriateness of medical reports submitted to the department by external medical specialists prior to consideration by the medical officers
- Coordinate return-to-work and suitable duties evaluation and planning for flying crew and reasonable accommodation for medically incapacitated employees
- Deliver health surveillance, medical screening and healthy lifestyles promotion by implementing programs such as weight management, stress control, cancer screening, hypertension screening and control, cholesterol reduction program and employee health training
- Maintenance of drug-free work environment by conducting periodic drug testing
- Conduct Medical procedures including audiometry and phlebotomy
- Conduct training and assessment for cabin crew, internal and external clients
- Perform Avmed training related duties e.g. developing training programmes, training materials, assessments and training administrative duties
- Provide continuous feedback to management regarding effectiveness of training courses
- Develop training curriculum to address identified needs and close performance gaps
- Develop learning materials and guides, trainer guides, visual aids and help prompts
- Issue certificates and maintain electronic records of assessment results
- Evaluate learning intervention and conduct self-evaluation
- Provide statistics for SAQA reporting
- Actively supports and adheres to people processes and plans to deliver on business objectives
- Provides support to team members to maximize productivity and development
- Implements change initiatives with the vision and strategic direction of the Airline
- Lives and role models the Airline’s Values
**Qualifications & Experience**:
- Registered Nurse (General, Community, Psychiatry) with Midwifery/Level 3 Paramedic with at least 5 years practice as an Occupational Health Nurse
- Practical Instructor Certificate/Train the Trainer Certificate
- Certified Assessor and Moderator Training
- SACAA Designated Examiner in Aviation Medicine will be an advantage
- Occupational Health qualification
- Current registration with SANC
- Spirometry and Audiometry Certificate
- Dispensing License
- Travel medicine certificate
- Aviation Health Care Provider Course
- Basic Life Support and Basic Life Support Instructor Certificate. Advanced Life Support an advantage
- First Aid (ICAO and IATA Compliance) Certificate
- Valid Driver’s License
- 2-3 years’ experience in Aviation and Travel Medicine
- Experience in Facilitation in a training environment
- Experience as a Flight Attendant/SCCM/IFSC/Avmed Adhoc Trainer
**Knowledge and Skills**:
- Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety
- Knowledge of the aviation industry and crew licensing, communicable diseases, passenger travel etc.
- Knowledge of occupational health and aviation medicine legislated requirements
- Knowledge of the ICAO SACAA Regulations
- Understanding of Training Needs Analysis
- Knowledge of South African Civil Aviation Authority, SAQA/NQF process
