**Position Overview**:
Responsible for calculating, reviewing, and reporting payroll related input to ensure accurate and timeous payment of salaries and/or wages. Ensuring compliance to relevant policies and procedures and applicable law. Responding to queries in a courteous manner within the prescribed timelines. Ensuring that unresolved queries are escalated appropriately.

**Qualifications**:

- Actively studying towards a 3-year tertiary financial/ HR qualification.
- Payroll System certification, VIP Payroll/ SAGE Payroll, SAP

**Required Attributes**:

- Information Management: Ability to effectively use information for management purposes, to gather/ organise/ capture relevant information to support sound decision-making, to correctly
- Strong attention to details with uncompromised sense of accuracy
- Deadline driven while achieving highest level of accuracy

- Ability to deal with conflicting priorities
- Work well under pressure

**Required skills and experience**:

- Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience.
- MS Office - Intermediate excel skills
- Payroll Software experience
- Basic understanding of tax
- Experience working within schools, preferably international schools, or non-profit educational institutions
- Dual currency experience
- Extensive understanding of SA Tax relating to employees
- Payroll experience in a multi-currency organization will be an added advantage
- Basic understanding of accounting principles.
- Familiar with Accounting Software.
- Sage People Payroll Software

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Payroll processing and reporting on multiple payrolls
- Collate payroll data and input the payroll information into the system for local and overseas hire employees, substitute/temp workers, and independent contractors.
- Capture all changes, additions, or deductions.
- For tax, pension, medical aid contributions etc.
- For garnishee orders.
- For expatriate teachers’ household and vehicle insurances
- Balance pay-slips and bank transfers.
- Ensure that employee payslips are accurate.
- Verify that the payslip analysis
- and variance reports are signed by the Finance Director
- Backup and liaise with Payroll software service provider on system problems and upgrades.
- Provide information and liaise with external company who prepares the expatriate tax returns.
- Provide information and liaise with Local and Overseas Pension fund managers.
- Work with Assistant Accountant to ensure payroll taxes are paid in time to SARS.
- Prepare payments for Pension, 401k, Medical Aid, Union, or Garnishees.
- Maintain historical salary schedules.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and documentation.
- Business Office archivist - File and control office archives.
- Assist with any Ad hoc duties as and when required. This includes substituting for other Business Office staff when they are on leave.
- Reconciliation
- Monthly reconciliation of overseas-hires 401k pension fund, and both Medical aids.
- Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts such as staff loans.
- Monthly reconciliation of all salary related balance sheet accounts
- Record Keeping and Administration
- Ensure all payroll reports and payslips are bound and kept secure as per procedure.
- General customer queries
- Timeous resolution of all queries and escalation of queries of a complex nature
- Provide timeous feedback on queries that will take longer to resolve
- Tax Validation
- Manage IRP5 Certificate reconciliation, printing & distribution
- Reconcile EXPAT taxes with TAX auditors and VIP consultant for accurate submission at tax assessment
