Since establishing the Africa Program in 2007, The Nature Conservancy’s vision in Africa is to work towards fostering a sustainable future for people and nature, partnering with indigenous communities across 55 million acres on the continent. Together with our partners, we are witnessing critical milestones in integrated land and fisheries management, ocean and source water protection, energy development and sustainable food production, working together and strengthening our resolve in tackling global challenges such as climate change, habitat and biodiversity loss that stands to adversely impact the nearly 1.4 billion people that share Africa.

The South Africa program is one of TNCs newest country programs on the African Continent. Our goal is protecting the rich biodiversity for current and future generations, supporting government in mitigating climate change and building resilient communities.

The TNC SA strategy is focussed on securing new protected areas (PAs) and improving management of existing PAs across terrestrial, freshwater, estuarine and marine realms.

Utilizing a “Water Fund” model to secure financing and implement effective Nature-Based Solutions at scale in selected Strategic Water Source Areas (SWSAs) for water security, disaster risk reduction, and biodiversity outcomes.

Overcoming obstacles to state land transfer by brokering technical and financial solutions and through coalition-building in selected Strategic Water Source Areas.

Enabling communities to protect and benefit from nature by assisting local implementing partners and communities to secure land ownership (or access resources), develop governance structures, and establish benefit-sharing and protection agreements.

**Core to this strategy is the formation of meaningful partnerships and collaboration within the wider network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the private sector, local communities, and different spheres of government.**:
**WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER**:
This position may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. The position will also be expected to travel to South Africa’s priority geographies for at least thirty percent of the work time.

The Integrated Landscape Manager reports to the Conservation Manager TNC South Africa, and will be based in Cape Town. The position is fixed to a two year contract with no work visas being offered.

**WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU**:
In this role you will:

- Facilitate protected area expansion and improve management of terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems.
- Be responsible for fostering a participatory approach by engaging primary stakeholders e.g. government, local communities and private landholders.
- Collect the required baseline information and complete biodiversity assessments to support submissions for conservation areas e.g. OECM and protected area declarations.
- Negotiate conservation options with private landowners and communities and compile agreements.
- Prepare management plans or management information packs for improving management of terrestrial and/or freshwater ecosystems.
- Plan, organize and facilitate knowledge sharing and learning engagements.
- Co-develop action plans for different landscapes and coordinate activities in collaboration with local stakeholders.
- Manage information systems and data pertinent to the Land and Freshwater Programme.
- Collect, collate and prepare relevant information for project evaluations and tracking impact and progress of planned activities.
