The Safety Manager will be responsible for the following on the mine:
 Carry a 2.17.4 legal appointment as per the MHSA (Safety Manager)
 Manage Health and Safety in the organisation
 Continuously engage management regarding health and safety
 Provide H&S support and advice to client to identify and mitigate H&S risk including legislative and other compliance requirements relevant to operations.
 Formulate and implement Health and Safety strategy in the organisation
 Set standards, processes and procedures for the effective running and management of the H&S Department
 Perform regular one on one’s and performance appraisals with all health and safety personnel.
 Set vision and strategy for all staff to ensure optimum performance deliverables.
 Implement, Maintain and Audit Integrated Health and Safety Management Systems
 Guide implementation of systems, processes and tools for the management of H&S as identified within client Operations
 Establish and enforce an effective health and safety culture in the organisation
 Ensure effective stakeholder engagement process is in place
 Investigate and address Health and Safety complaints
 Ensure continuous improvement on the Integrated Management Systems.
 Ensure effective risk management processes are implemented
 Ensure and maintain a healthy environment, safe operations and practices.
 Ensure compliance to all applicable legislations (OHS-Act, MHS-Act, etc.)
 Ensure development and implementation of health and safety standards, policies and procedures.
 Ensure development and implementation of SHE Management programmes
 Conduct and participate in inspections, audits, program certification and training as per schedule and legal requirements
 Create Safety Awareness to address behaviour safety
 Ensure proper discipline in the reporting of incidents and non-conformances
 Manage effective incident investigation process using different investigation techniques.
 Compile health and safety reports as required at agreed frequencies
 Ensure effective contractor management processes are implemented.
 Ensure that applicable health and safety meetings are held at agreed frequencies.
 Ensure that the training needs are identified and implemented
 Build relationships with all internal / external stakeholders
 Ensure effective liaison with all stakeholders (DMR, Emergency Services, etc)
 Safety awareness campaigns within organisation

Minimum requirements for the position:
 Relevant qualifications in Health & Safety
 Drivers Licence
 Coal industry experience would be an advantage.
