F. Duties and responsibilities
- Manage and control the group VAT submission by sending the timelines to the VAT team and monitoring and managing the progress of the timelines
- Prepare, review, and submit monthly Value Added Tax (“VAT”) returns within required deadlines
- Ensure all monthly VAT payments to SARS within deadline to avoid interest and penalty charges.
- Liaise with treasury on cash requirements for SARS payments
- Ensure monthly reconciliation of VAT inputs and outputs per general ledger to the VAT201.
- Manage, develop, and mentor VAT administrators
- Provide feedback and support to VAT Administrators to ensure consistency and quality across entities
- Manage VAT verification letters, audits and communication with SARS
- Write or review letters to SARS to address VAT queries
- Assist the income tax department with supplementary requests relating to VAT
- Prepare annual VAT apportionment calculations and schedules according to the latest ruling in place from SARS
- At financial year calculate and request invoices for the recovery of fund expenses from group companies
- Identify areas of non-compliance and risk in the business - awareness of activities in all departments
- Advise business on VAT implications of new transactions, including impact on system setup
- Review and monitor financial controls relevant to the VAT process
- Ensure accuracy of MRI data: Perform controls in order to detect inaccuracies, liaise with AP and CM teams in order to review individual transactions and make necessary corrections if applicable.
- Analysis of MRI data to timeously identify system errors and liaise with IT teams to assist in correcting data, calculations, or reports
- Monitoring of VAT reconciliation methodology in the system environment
- Conduct research and stay abreast of changes to legislation

G. Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Accounting/Finance
- 10 years relevant experience

H. Competencies and Skills
- Must be computer literate with a sound knowledge and experience of the Microsoft packages
- Sound knowledge of the VAT act
- Ability to work unsupervised, self-starter
- Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Strong numeracy skills and understanding of accounting principals
- Deadline orientated and
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Stakeholder focus: strategically anticipate and proactively meet the needs, expectations and continually improve services.

I. Role Location

Growthpoint Head Office in Sandton, Johannesburg. The Company will accommodate some flexibility in this regard.
