**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
The Health & Safety Lead is responsible for ensuring compliance of Health and Safety standards on all South African sites, supporting strategies for continuous improvement and driving forward a proactive health and safety approach.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Lead the implementation of corporate/global/local Health & Safety & Security policies and practices
- Ensure that operations, activities and processes comply with the Regional Health & Safety & Security Management System, policies and plans, as well with the Emerging sites (SA, China and India) on fryer fire management.
- Lead the local health & safety team to provide health, safety, process safety/containment, and expertise to all local sites in a manner that is compatible with local issues and culture.
- Manage local Health & Safety budgets including cost management and spending prioritization.
- Lead local Health & Safety improvements and ensure compliance with statutory requirements, maintain all statutory licencing and engagement with local and national authorities where necessary
- Conduct internal Plants audits of the ISO 45001, Key Elements of Safety and Culture system under the prescribed Regional scheduled intervals and advise on audit actions and ensure that its closed out within agreed timelines
- Provide technical and ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management System for all sites
- Ensure global expertise support is structured to effectively support the region in order to improve the work processes and support the regions and businesses.
- Measure functional performance against goals, client expectations and develop improvement plans.
- Integrate Key Elements of Safety and Culture Maturity audit and ensure H&S self-assessments, audits, regulatory compliance and corrective action completion and validation.
- Ensure and maintain Process Safety Management work process fully implementation. Support implementation and maintenance of Dupont H&S 13 elements
- Develop and assist Site Risk Managers to align priorities, set objectives, track progress, develop abilities, evaluate performance and provide feedback
- Review and update strategy and plans for Regional H&S improvements and initiatives.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Completion of tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or Risk Management
- At least 10 years’ experience in the OHS environment
- Ideally a Health and Safety qualification e.g. NEBOSH.
- In depth understanding of site health and safety risks in a food manufacturing environment, their management controls and relevant legal standards
- Willingness to take action beyond specific explicit position responsibilities
- Ability to efficiently schedule own and others time and activities
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work co-operatively with other team members to achieve team goals
- Excellent ability to develop and maintain relationships with all key stakeholders.
- Positive and resilient in challenging situations;
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving and leadership skills;
