Indian Ocean Export Company is a family owned and run export trading business based in Durban that has been in existence for the last 51 years. We specialize in the export of FMCG's, fruit and vegetables, wines and building materials to about 55 countries throughout the world. We have subsidiary businesses in various other countries that we are involved in.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and implement the organization's financial strategy and long-term financial planning.
- Provide financial insights and guidance to the executive team and the board of directors.
- Assess the financial health of the organization and recommend actions for improvement.
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support the companies objectives.
2. Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Provide accurate and timely financial reports to internal and external stakeholders.
3. Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Manage the budgeting process, working with department heads to set financial targets and monitor performance against budgets.
- Create financial forecasts and scenarios to support decision-making and resource allocation.
4. Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the organization's liquidity needs are met.
- Implement effective cash management strategies, including optimizing working capital.
5. Risk Management:
- Identify and assess financial risks, such as market volatility, credit risk, and operational risk.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the organization from financial threats.
6. Investment and Capital Management:
- Evaluate investment opportunities and capital allocation decisions.
- Optimize the organization's capital structure and manage debt and equity financing.
7. Tax Planning and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and minimize tax liabilities.
- Work with tax professionals to develop tax-efficient strategies.
8. Financial Controls and Policies:
- Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls to safeguard the organization's assets.
- Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures.
9. Financial Analysis:
- Conduct financial analysis, including cost-benefit analysis and financial modeling, to support strategic decision-making.
10. Relationship Management:
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as auditors, regulators, investors, and financial institutions.
- Build and maintain relationships with key financial partners.
11. Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor the finance team.
- Provide leadership and direction to the finance department.
12. Compliance and Legal Matters:
- Ensure compliance with all financial and legal requirements, including regulatory filings and reporting.
13. Technology and Systems:
- Implement and oversee financial management systems and technology to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
