What will you do?

This exciting opportunity is available within Risk Services Commercial Underwriting based at Alice Lane Sandton offices.

Assume overall underwriting responsibility for the commercial motor portfolio with the explicit goal to support profitable growth and establish Santam as the undisputed industry leader.
What will make you successful?

Responsible for balancing growth and profitability of the Motor portfolio (shared responsibility with Broker Services)
Research and implement appropriate underwriting rules for the Commercial motor portfolio
Communicate new underwriting trends and/or rules with staff and brokers
Provide technical underwriting advice to staff, clients and intermediaries
Understand, translate and champion the underwriting needs of intermediaries, staff and clients
Develop market intelligence for benchmarking
Identify underwriting trends and address pro-actively
Do underwriting governance to ensure compliance with underwriting rules
Negotiate, agree and manage motor underwriting mandates, with staff and brokers
Assist with transfer of skills to CoE staff and Technical Managers and Technical Underwriters
Assist with special commercial motor projects as and when it is necessary
Draft technical specification for development of new or changes to commercial motor underwriting functionality on PolicyCentre
Do user acceptance testing with regards to development of new commercial motor underwriting functionality on PolicyCentre
Maintenance of motor tables on PolicyCentre
Drafting of monthly profitability reports and Interpreting profit drivers and trends
Drafting and sharing of discount governance reports to stakeholders
Motor fleet underwriting governance including drafting and communicating reports to stakeholders
Support sales & distribution with technical problems and enquiries
Reinsurance (placement of facultative reinsurance and managing of treaty declarations) Qualifications and Exeprience

B. Degree/AIISA or comparable short term insurance qualification
FAIS compliant (120 credits-commercial insurance)
10 years extensive insurance industry experience, specifically in Commercial and Motor underwriting
Experience in drafting and/or signing of policy wordings and/or underwriting rules
Experience in drafting UW training manuals. Knowledge

Technical commercial underwriting skills - specifically in motor underwriting
Extensive short-term insurance knowledge - specifically in commercial business
Thorough knowledge of the Santam mainframe system is advantageous
Knowledge of South African insurance commercial market product - specifically in motor insurance products Skills

**Advance proficiency in MS Office**: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Strong analytical ability
