Data Scientist

PURPOSE

The data scientist will interpret and use large data sets to develop actional reports, data driven solutions and visualizations to difficult business challenges. This includes advanced database programming techniques, reporting, dashboarding and machine learning. To derive value out of vast amounts of legacy and digital data, extracting insights, finding trends and presenting findings and improvements to the business.

Be involved in molding and driving the company's data strategy from descriptive analytics to predictive and prescriptive analytics. To develop, deploy, and maintain BI tools and interfaces including query tools, data visualization and interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting, and data modeling.

SPAN OF CONTROL

This role is responsible for contributing and operationalizing the data strategy across the whole organization by developing, deploying, and maintaining BI tools and interfaces including query tools, data visualization and interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting, and data modeling.

QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 12 / Matric
- A relevant diploma / Bachelor’s degree in in Software Development (Programming) or Data Science, majoring in Statistics.
- Advanced Power BI Experience or qualifications essential.
- Valid Driver’s License is essential.
- At least 5 years of experience is essential.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & OUTPUTS
- Data Sources - Lead BI tool development, deployment, and maintenance
- Set and translate business requirements into Technical BI requirements
- Build an understanding of the Belgotex business to be able to better service customers and the business objectives.
- Establish and maintain the company's data strategy in line with the department and organisations strategy and objectives.
- Develop BI Solutions based on requirements from report owners
- Manage and maintain the BI Platform (Power BI), including security and enhancements.
- Report curation and data modelling
- Interact with report owners to establish requirements and develop report specifications
- Use state-of-the-art data mining and best practice methods to collate and prepare data for reporting.
- Process, cleanse and verify the integrity of data used for analysis.
- Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance, including exception reporting for data integrity checking.
- Do ad-hoc statistical analysis and present results in a clear manner.
- Plan and execute work according to priorities and deadlines
- Data warehouse design
- Understand the business needs and then design and create frameworks, data modules and datasets
- Collect and prepare external data to be integrated into organizational data for analysis.
- Build and maintain statistical functions specific to the business to be used in reports and dashboards.

- Create the BI tools technical documentation for Belgotex and work with business managers to work with them.

- Capture and submit travel requisitions on the purchase requisition system
- Manage time in a manner that impacts the project costing in line with project budget

**REQUIREMENTS**:
Knowledge and skill
- Proven track record working with complex data sets, including data manipulation, functions and calculations, eg. Dax Functions.
- Advanced understanding of database query languages, both on relational and non-relational data sources.
- Experience with ETL / data transformation.
- Proven track record building complex dashboards & reports, performing analysis and presenting findings to management and the business.
