**Purpose of the Job**:
To undertake advanced scientific duties towards achieving business objectives and customer needs, and to lead innovation, research and development into laboratory testing and related services.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Conducting scientific research employing standard scientific principles, theories and concepts *Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments *Represent the laboratory in steering committees, symposia and conferences with publication and presentations *Make objective decisions on routine issues and methods and recommend scientific approaches and solutions *Optimize and improve current test methods *Develop and evaluate new analytical methods and new instrumentation as required *Train, coach, mentor and develop graduate trainees and in-service trainees *Validate laboratory data *Participate in internal audits *Staff management, training and development, *Client relationship, *Budget Planning and Control, Quality Management System.

**Minimum Qualification, Knowlege & Skills**:
Minimum Qualifications: Matric with BSc Honours Degree or M-Tech in Chemical Sciences (MSc and PhD preferable) *Registered as a Professional Scientist.

Minimum Experience: 3 years’ experience in relevant water analysis and/or research and development in Chemistry, together with knowledge of water and wastewater treatment *Additional 2 years’ research experience including research project management *Must have presented/ published at least one paper at conferences/symposia or in reputable scientific journals, respectively.

Knowledge, skills and competencies: We are looking for an individual who has thorough knowledge of water analyses regimen relevant to
designated discipline *knowledge of the water industry and environmental analysis, as well as water quality legislation, standards, guidelines
and operational limits - including ISO/IEC 17025.*research and development skills *ability to manage small to medium-size projects
applicable to the designated discipline. *working knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) *eligible to be a SANAS
approved technical signatory.
