Donor Liaison

The individual will be responsible for raising funds, and maintaining existing, and initiating new relationships, to support a range of activities undertaken by the Centre from academic to professional journalism projects.
The appointment will be made at AD09 level.

**Responsibilities**:

- Identify and establish relationships with new partners, donors, and funders, for all projects including academic, together with the Director of the WCJ and the senior bookkeeper;
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with key donors and funders, together with the Director of the Wits Centre for Journalism;
- Support project coordinators in writing funding proposals, in line with the overall strategic objectives of the WCJ;
- Support project coordinators in reporting back to donors and funders at the end of funding cycles, together with the senior bookkeeper of the WCJ;
- Support project coordinators in ensuring legal compliance of all donor contracts, together with the Wits Legal Office;
- Conceptualise and implement M&E processes for each of the funded WCJ projects;
- Report back to the WCJ on all funding or donor-related matters.
- Develop and maintain a database of existing funding contracts, upcoming calls and of key donors or philanthropies.

**Requirements**:

- A bachelors’ degree or equivalent;
- Five years’ or more proven experience in donor liaison and fundraising, particularly in the journalism and media space in South Africa;
- Sound knowledge of the global donor landscape;
- Sound knowledge of journalism and media landscape primarily in sub-Saharan Africa and the rest of the continent;
- Understanding of ethical practices particularly in donor and fundraising spaces;
- Ability to think strategically and be proactive;
- Project documentation editing skills are an advantage;
- Independent, self-motivated with an ability to work with a number of different stakeholders;
- Relevant and proven M&E experience will be a strong advantage;
- Excellent communication, writing and organisational skills are a must.
