BDO has a vacancy for a Tax Director: Quality within the Tax service line.
- Designing and implementing effective and efficient compliance processes with clearly defined roles and responsibilities, that enable business to deliver exceptional client service.
- Being a trusted advisor. Advising on regulations, policies and procedures and enhancing skills through focused training and awareness programmes.
- Implementing monitoring processes, providing value-add reporting and ensuring remedial action is taken for identified non-compliance.
- Designing, implementing and managing projects and initiatives, policies and processes, systems/tools relating to quality of tax professional services.
- Designing digital solutions to ensure effective and efficient automation solutions.
- Identifying risks to related quality objectives, assessing current controls and designing controls to further mitigate any identified risks.
- Performing reviews to monitor compliance to policies and procedures and providing input into related risks.
- Develop and maintain a tax quality framework.
- Managing a portfolio of internal engagements with focus on regular performance of inspections, reporting to engagement partners on matters identified in compliance with the Internal Inspections Program (IIP).
- Attending to queries from within the firm on independence matters.
- Leading and assisting tax quality, independence, and regulatory projects.
- Supporting implementation of automation to increase overall quality of deliverables.
- Co-ordinating Tax Quality & Risk Management training programmes.
- Carrying out engagement reviews to ensure compliance with the Firm’s engagement procedures and with the Firm’s sign off and review procedures.
- Contributing to the training and development of direct colleagues, as well, upon request, to the broader firm’s professional service lines.
- Assisting with deliverables to the partners and managers of the firm through discussions, presentation, reports, communications, etc.
- Deliver an active contribution to improve the professional tax knowledge of staff. This includes active involvement with development, improvement and maintenance of procedures, templates, soft and hard copy libraries and other know how resources.
- Ensure that team members act in accordance with the relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Conducting risk assessments to identify potential risks and developing risk managing strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Working with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify and address risks.
- Executing and reviewing tax consulting deliverables and leading risk management and business development activities to support the tax consulting division.
- Leading and directing multiple, diverse, and complex engagements and consulting projects.

**Qualifications**:

- Bcom Honours Business Science/ Finance Postgraduate qualification in Business Science/ Relevant financial or Law degree
- MCOM or HDIP in Tax
- CA(SA) advantageous

Experience and Knowledge
- 10+ years’ experience in research and drafting of tax legal opinions dealing with all tax matters (national and international)
- Knowledge of various tax laws and technical matters relevant to your area of expertise.
- Influencing and designing tax policy: In respect of proposed or existing tax legislation and interpretation
- Extensive legal interpretation experience, and tax technical experience, in particular pertaining to South African tax legislation
- Previous experience in audit, advisory and tax firm is beneficial.
