**Requirements/ Recommendations**:

- At least 3-4 years of relevant experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Previous high school work experience in any of the sciences is recommended.
- An aptitude for the sciences, especially Life Sciences, Chemistry and Physics.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree or Diploma in Sciences (Chemistry with Physics recommended)

**Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:

- Assisting high school science teachers in the laboratory with all relevant tasks, including: ordering, stock control, maintenance, cleaning, etc.
- Assisting the teachers in implementing a sciences laboratory programme by preparing the equipment, chemicals or specimens required and assisting learners during practicals.
- Performing various administrative tasks.

- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Good computer knowledge and skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- A sense of urgency.

**Laboratory Assistant**

**Tasks and activities**

The tasks and activities include:

- Moving of apparatus to and from storerooms.
- Setting up of apparatus after use.
- Cleaning and correct storage of apparatus and equipment.
- Ordering and unpacking new apparatus and control over quantities.
- Collecting of fresh plant and animal material.
- Maintaining order and neatness of storerooms.
- Repairing and maintaining apparatus and equipment (removing rust, paint, substituting broken parts, etc.)
- Preparing specimens.
- Assisting with apparatus and equipment during practical’s, practical exams and tests. Assist learners during practicals.
- Preparing solutions and mixtures of chemicals.
- Checking and arranging servicing of microscopes and other delicate equipment when necessary (every 5 years).
- Ordering new laboratory supplies and chemicals as needed.
- Checking for expired chemicals and dispose of them using the correct service providers.
