VACANCY
- Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading [VPUU NPC] finds its origins in the need to create safer and sustainable communities as a proactive response to the high levels of violence depriving people in particular areas of access to opportunities to participate fully in the democratic society._

- Since 2005, VPUU has grown to 176 staff, working with communities across 15 areas in South Africa; in urban and rural settings, in formal and informal settlements._
- We are searching for an IT Manager to join our awesome 6-person tech team as we upgrade and manage VPUU IT and network infrastructure. This isn’t the typical IT-person role - VPUU’s ICS and V-NET teams are implementing innovative ICT solutions that directly empower the communities we serve. The approach by which we identify social issues and conceptualise, design and implement solutions is community-driven and inclusive, and we want your help to do this even better._
- V-NET is VPUU’s community wireless network operating in 3 suburbs and informal settlements, with plans to expand to several new areas this year._
- The IT Manager will join the Executive Support Services team to manage the ICS and V-NET teams to further VPUU’s mission and help bridge the digital divide in South Africa._

**IT MANAGER**

Between R36 000 and R48 000 CTC per month (Depending on experience)

12 Months Fixed Term Contract

**Key performance areas**:

- Oversight of Information and Communications Systems (ICS) and Network teams
- Monitoring and management of organization-wide IT and network infrastructure and operations, including: o Internal VPUU office networks, and V-NET, VPUU’s community wireless network o Local, web-based, and portable servers and infrastructure
- Management of company Asset register, including the issuance and return of equipment
- Strategic design and implementation of network and IT infrastructure at newly constructed VPUU facilities.
- Audit/inspect existing systems and make recommendations for upgrades/changes to ensure secure and efficient operations
- Lead on IT and network hardware and software procurement.
- Ensure security of data, network access and backup systems
- Track emerging technologies and implement them in the organization

**Requirements**:

- B degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, B Tech in Information Technology, Information System;
- Microsoft, Mikrotik or Comptia qualifications are an advantage.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in managing teams/people management
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in IT support roles
- Valid Driver’s licence
- Fluent English, Xhosa is an advantage
- Valid COVID 19 Vaccination certificate
- Proven experience in managing IT infrastructure and services
- Sound knowledge of network management and monitoring o Good LAN / WAN / WIFI knowledge and experience of TCP / IP protocols
- Working knowledge of Microsoft on-premises server as well as MSO365 hybrid cloud and Mikrotik services
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of public cloud services, especially Amazon Web Services
- Proven experience in managing larger networks, or qualifications in network engineering not a requirement but a big plus.
- Working knowledge of Nextcloud (or Owncloud)
- UniFi Controller, UISP (formerly UNMS) management and network optimization
- Hands-on Docker experience is an advantage
- Experience w/ DevOps principles and practices.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Solid communication and time management skills
