The incumbent of this position will ensure that Mondi is “doing the right thing at the right time in the right way” in terms of operational planning, Silviculture, Harvesting and Transport. The incumbent will also be responsible for the co-ordination, facilitation of Continuous Improvement in the Midlands Business Unit

EDUCATION

MIN EDUCATION REQUIRED:

- Senior Certificate

TERTIARY: ESSENTIAL
- BSc/ B-Tech Forestry or similar equivalent qualification
- MTech or MSc Forestry qualification - Desirable

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
- More than 5 years forest management experience in Silviculture & Harvesting

RESPONSIBILITIES / KPAS:

- Responsible for Technology transfer to the Operations teams
- Ensures that information sharing and coaching (extension) takes place consistently throughout the Business Unit
- Transfers Silviculture and Harvesting innovation initiatives
- Supports and coordinates the roll out and implementation of strategic projects (e.g. modernisation) and facilitates

Continuous Improvement initiatives across Areas and the BU- Coordinates the roll out and implementation of new policies and procedures (best practices)
- Actively embarks on benchmarking of operations
- Auditing
- Conducts certification systems audits (FSC, ISO, NOSA)
- Facilitates quality and productivity audits across the BUs contract operations, including critical measures assessments
- Drives operational policies and procedures compliance
- Provides Operational support
- Commissions work study assessments and productivity initiative implementation
- Identifies local research needs
- Assists with budgeting and contractor rate calculations
- Provides Firefighting and leave relief
- Continuous Improvement
- Facilitates Continuous Improvement within operations
- Co-ordinates Continuous Improvement initiatives within business parameters
- Co-ordinates between BU’s and Areas as well as with centralised initiatives
- Monitor and provide feedback on initiatives in Zululand and SQF

JOB COMPETENCIES / ATTRIBUTES/SKILLS - ESSENTIAL
- Proven ability to develop policies and best operating procedures
- Proven ability to monitor productivity levels across all operations
- Good negotiations skills
- Knowledge of regulations related to the Forestry field
- Excellent communications skills and self motivated
- General computer literacy is a pre requisite (experience and knowledge of MS Office is essential)
- Code EB Driver’s License
