**ABOUT THE ROLE**:
We are looking for a motivated Junior Accountant with exceptional attention to detail, diligence, and experience with VAT, SARS, and PAYE compliance coupled with strong bookkeeping skills.

As a Junior Accountant, you will directly report to our Finance Manager and work closely with other areas of the business. You will support financial reporting and analysis of the business, preparations of financials for audit, ensuring compliance, cost analysis and management, tax administration, and managing payments to suppliers.

You will be supported by multiple external accounting firms and a rich Operations team in ensuring the internal systems of a high-growth tech support scale. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the largest education technology startups in Africa and support our management team in decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Bookkeeping
- Reconciling bank accounts, supplier accounts and customer accounts
- Identifying, recommending and implementing process improvements in bookkeeping
- Entering financial transactions into Xero
- Ensuring our invoicing protocols are followed
- Maintaining digital financial records
- Banking, Payment and Payroll
- Preparing payroll for approval with inputs from HR as needed
- Preparing monthly payment runs
- Preparing monthly commission schedules
- Loading payments to bank accounts, ready to release
- Liaising with the business bankers for administrative and other requirements
- Month-end
- Reviewing and reconciling balance sheet accounts
- Prepare accrual and prepayment schedules
- Create intercompany invoices and supporting schedules
- Support in the preparation of management reports
- Fixed Assets
- Maintain an accurate, complete fixed asset register - additions and disposals
- Run monthly depreciation calculations
- Statutory Audits
- Assisting in the preparation audit files for all entities
- Providing support during the audit as required
- Compliance
- Preparing and submitting PAYE, NI and VAT for the UK and SA companies
- Support in preparing for and meeting statutory and regulatory requirements

**REQUIREMENTS**:
**Minimum**:

- Must have completed a degree in Accounting, Finance or a relevant field
- At least 2 years of experience in accounting / bookkeeping
- Prior experience in an SME
- Experience and understanding of South African VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL requirements
- Experience and understanding of applicable accounting principles and compliance requirements
- Experience using Xero
- Experience using SimplePay or an equivalent payroll system
- Hands-on experience with Google Sheets, Docs and Slides
