To provide guidance to junior and senior DBAs and play a pro-active role in achieving of a stable and secure production database environment which performs according to predefined standards and is recoverable in case of hardware failure or disaster situations Key Deliverables / Primary Functions
Stay abreast of product updates, new releases and product roadmaps and advise and plan the exploitation of new functionalities.
Use Data Modelling principles and tools to understand and design data bases
Co-operate with the development Data bases to optimize Data Base performance in analysing SQL code, etc
Define and gain agreement on roles and responsibilities
Monitor and ensure compliance with all OLA and SLA requirements
Comply with existing standards and procedures at all times, while constantly reviewing the efficiency and applicability of these procedures and standards
Ensure that Service Delivery is aligned with contractual obligations to prevent penalties being applied against BCX
Ensure that all projects and out of scope services are agreed to through the engagement layer
Compile and maintain the integrity of a Configuration Management Data Base in alignment with BCX’s standards and using the BCX prescribed systems
Use the appropriate toolsets for all work performed
Use the BCX Remedy system for request, incident and problem handling on a continuous basis
Record and build a known error database for Problem Handling
Build and maintain a network of support structures e.g. Vendors; employees, user groups etc. for consultation purposes
Use the appropriate toolsets for early detection and pro-active problem prevention
Approval of new versions through a users acceptance testing and quality assurance ( process that is in alignment with BCX’s polices and procedures
Design and execute a release implementation plan in a timeous manner
Maintain the DSL at all times
Install, maintain and report license issues as and when they occur.
Use the appropriate toolsets in alignment with BCX’s policies and procedures
Monitor and report on space utilisation
Execute trend analysis, alerts and when required, escalation all in alignment with BCX’s policies and procedures
Monitor memory utilisation and CPU at all times
Identify and implement appropriate toolsets for an effective back-up strategy
After implementation, ensure that the back-up strategy is monitored on a continuous basis
Validate a DR Plan for the data base(s) under the data centre management, consider the replication, snapshots or remote copy as applicable
Ensure that security measures are in place Functional Skills
