Job Description

Anticipated Contract End Date/Length: 12-months contract
Work set up: Hybrid

Our client in the global professional services industry is seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join the BAS Technical team, supporting the National Treasury project. This role involves managing, optimizing, and monitoring DB2 databases on an IBM z/OS mainframe environment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in database administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting within a mainframe setting.

What you will do:

  • Administer, optimize, monitor, and fine-tune databases on DB2 for z/OS mainframe.
  • Design, implement, and maintain databases, including backup/recovery and configuration management.
  • Install and configure DBMS and contribute to procedural documentation and problem resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement database solutions.
  • Conduct regular performance monitoring and analysis to enhance database efficiency.
  • Authorize TSO user-ids and grant privileges for production databases.
  • Monitor production reports to ensure adherence to execution times and improve throughput.
  • Provide technical support to end users within the MVS environment.
  • Assist with release management and database quality assurance, including SQL code reviews.
  • Perform standby duties to address DB2, CICS, and VSAM-related issues.
  • Analyze and rectify DB2 table and VSAM file extents in production environments.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a DB2 DBA in an IBM z/OS environment.
  • Proficiency in Mainframe (MVS), DB2 for z/OS, Windows OS, SQL, CICS, and JCL.
  • Experience in batch operations and MVS architectures.
  • Strong communication skills, teamwork, and service delivery mindset.
  • Experience with DB2 v11 or higher in a z/OS environment.
  • Knowledge of database management tools such as:
    • DB2 Query Monitor for z/OS
    • DB2 SQL Performance Analyzer
    • OPTIM Query Workload Tuner
    • DB2 Administrator Tool for z/OS
    • DB2 Log Analysis Tool for z/OS
    • QMF for Workstation and z/OS
    • CICS Debug Tool
    • TMON, IDZ
  • Experience with SQL and/or REXX scripting for task automation.
  • Familiarity with scheduling tools such as CONTROL-M.
