Microsoft is recruiting a senior government affairs professional in South Africa as part of the South Africa Corporate, External & Legal Affairs team. The professional will act as general advisor to the business leadership on government, industry and corporate affairs issues and will coordinate coverage across the business locations operated in the country. The position will report to the Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Lead in SA.

**Responsibilities**:

- Developing, orchestrating and implementing, in partnership with key stakeholder groups strategic outreach strategies and campaigns to positively shape the debate and public policy outcomes on issues important to the ICT industry. These issues include online and software ecosystem growth and development, privacy, Artificial Intelligence, ICT security, intellectual property rights protection, competition law and trade and market access.
- Working in close partnership with the Company’s public relations team to develop effective internal and external communications strategies.
- Supporting the Public Sector business through engagement with government departments, mapping of accounts influential and development and implementation of strategies to support the revenue and growth objectives of this segment.
- Externally representing the Company in small and large group settings to promote the Company’s and the industry’s position on important public policy issues.
- Working closely with the Microsoft leadership team in SA to keep them well informed on public policy issues, debates and trends and providing proactive advice on the impact and relevance of these issues to the Company’s businesses. Directing the external engagement of the leadership team as it relates to outreach on public policy issues.
- Being a leading voice for the Company and building and strengthening the Company’s relationship with industry partners, trade associations, advocacy organizations, multi-lateral organizations, and industry coalitions to more effectively shape and advance the industry’s position on important public policy issues.
- Championing the Company’s values and the highest ethical standards in the conduct of Microsoft’s business and engagement with government customers and officials.
- Identifying new and emerging legal and regulatory issues that may affect Microsoft’s businesses in the region. Coordinating internal and external legal and non-legal expert resources, as necessary, to help analyze and address such issues in the implementation of the company’s business strategy.
- Implementing an effective measurement and analysis approach for campaigns that will support prioritization of activities and investments.

**Qualifications**:
**Minimum/Required Qualifications**
- Minimum of 4 years university studies in the areas of law, economics, communications, political science, international affairs or equivalent.
- A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in South Africa.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Experience in building and managing relationships with key government officials.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Education in public administration.
- A combination of private and public sector work experience.
- Strong business acumen, preferably in the ICT sector.
- A proven record of cross-group collaboration.
