**Established Crop Producer, has an opening for an irrigation assistant to be based on the farm in Johannesburg, Tarlton. The irrigation assistants’ primary responsibility is to ensure effective irrigation of all crops. The irrigation assistant will be responsible for assisting with the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, as well as ensuring that irrigation schedules are being followed.**

**Requirements**:

- Prior experience working with irrigation systems.
- Matric equivalent and any higher institution certification relevant.
- 3+ years of experience in the agricultural industry.
- Working in outdoor conditions.
- Prolonged periods of operating and monitoring pivots.
- Irregular working hours to ensure the irrigation are being applied in the most efficient manner.
- Ms Office proficient.
- Ability to operate irrigation equipment such as pumps, valves and controllers.
- Basic understanding of irrigation water management and scheduling.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to comprehend, read, write and communicate proficiently in English.
- Should have a valid RSA driver license.

**Duties**:

- Reports to the Irrigation Supervisor/manager, maintaining open communication through concise and timeous reports.
- Ensure that irrigation schedules are adhered to.
- Troubleshoot and repair irrigation system problems.
- Maintain records of irrigation schedules and system maintenance.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain irrigation equipment (Motor amps, pump pressures, pump temperatures, gland packing, motor/pump alignment, valves and controllers).
- Pivot monitoring (pressure monitoring, Nozzles, misalignments, couplings, gearboxes, motors, General pivot structure, diaphrams and solenoids).
- Borehole monitoring (Monitor and understand motorscope).
- Dam level monitoring (Dam level sensors).
- Pipeline and cable monitoring (leaks, pipe sizes and electrical cable faults).
- Pivot nozzle calibrations and package readjustments.
- Will be required to drive a tractor.
- Tech savvy.
- Housekeeping (Pump houses, boreholes, transformers).
- Weather condition monitoring.
- Land moisture monitoring.
- Monitoring of applicators (Flow rates, leaks, blowers).
- Managing your own efficiencies. Continual improvement is key.
- Operate other farm equipment as and when needed.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that promotes good safety practices.
- Use and maintain all personal protective equipment (PPE) recommended for each work situation.
- Responsible for inventory control and accurate and timeous record keeping.
- Will be required to perform other duties on the farm.
