**Job purpose**

Perform routine and ad-hoc maintenance activities in accordance with the prescribed quality management program within the SAFARI-1 Research Reactor. The incumbent must be able to work in a team and perform routine maintenance and fault finding on electronic & instrument systems and subsystems relating to the SAFARI-1 Nuclear and Process systems.

**Key Performance Areas**

Key responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

- Perform maintenance (instrumentation) activities as required in accordance with the various specification requirements of the SAR, maintenance programs, legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that quick and accurate calibrations are performed on an on-going basis during shutdown periods in conjunction with the various quality and maintenance systems and programmes.
- Update and control drawings as required in the management systems, as applicable.
- Evaluate conditions applicable to non-conformance in the plant and pro-actively identify (together with operational and technical staff) the appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct technical investigations and fault finding plant equipment and or facilities as well as commercial processes
- Problem solving of ad-hoc faults and problems reported on the Request for Maintenance (RFM) and to ensure that the facility stays in operation and that regulatory and specification are adhered to.
- Support Safari-1 with specialised projects and on development of new facilities.
- Update and record data in the store control database for controlling stock levels.
- Prepare work procedures and checklists (i.e. commissioning plans, calibration checklists, work procedures, etc.), including the updating of instrumentation drawings.
- Administrative, ensuring that an effective documentation and records system are maintained.
- Coach and mentor staff on an on-going basis.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Diploma Instrumentation.
- Thorough knowledge of nuclear facilities and the various regulatory requirements will be a huge advantage.
- Computer literate preferably with programming skills.
- At least 10 to 15 years applicable experience with preferably 10 years in an instrumentation maintenance environment.
- Driver’s license and own transport: the incumbent will be required to work after hours and placed on standby duties as needed.
- The incumbent must be medically fit to qualify as a radiation worker and chemical worker.
