**PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT - Technical Risk and Process Safety**

ERM is looking for a motivated Principal Safety Consultant to join its Safety Service team in Johannesburg, South Africa.

**Responsibilities**
As a Principal Consultant joining our team, your key focus will be to support the successful delivery of ERM projects. Technically, the consultant should have experience in some or all of the following areas, for example:

- Process Safety auditing (due diligence, compliance, verification);
- Process Safety management, compliance programme development and implementation;
- Quantitative Risk Assessments and report compilation;
- Quantified Risk Assessments on a range of industrial and mining operations;
- Qualitative Risk Assessments;
- Facilitation of Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs);
- Compilation of Bow Tie’s and reports;
- Risk Assessments (Baseline; FMECA; Issue based; Haz-ids; LOPA’s etc. on a range of industrial operations such as Mining, Power, Technology, Chemicals, Oil and Gas etc.)
- Behavioural and Human Factors safety;
- Understanding of South African and broader African H&S legal requirements;
- Risk data management and analysis.
- Experience in resource efficiency and optimisation on a range of industrial sites
- Working knowledge of climate change services (carbon foot printing, life cycle assessments, climate risk, etc.)

As a Principal Consultant within the team, you will be responsible for:

- Managing or coordinating small or medium size projects or whole elements of larger multidisciplinary or global projects - as ERM works closely with some of the world’s largest organisations, we anticipate that this role will require close collaboration with our European Safety & Risk teams as well as across our offices in Africa;
- Delivering multiple project tasks or components, including proposals;
- Supervising project team(s) and coaching and mentoring more junior staff;
- Understanding the interrelationships between ERM services and policies and how these are applied within the clients’ business model;
- Establishing strong working relationships with clients through project delivery;
- Developing Safety & Risk services in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa;
- Client liaison, proposal preparation and review, project execution and management;
- Client training and technical assistance;
- Mentoring of junior staff; and
- Adhering to ERM Southern Africa’s and Global Risk’s policies and procedures.

You will be part of our interdisciplinary and international team and will collaborate with ERM offices in the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe, Middle East and Africa regions. Travel within South Africa, Southern Africa and globally will be required to fulfil some of the above requirements.

**Requirements**:

- Engineering Degree, ideally in the field of Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering;
- Experience in all aspects of Process Safety, including QRA’s, HAZOPs, Behavioural safety and Human Factors programmes, risk management concepts including baseline risk assessments, risk control strategies task risk and continuous risk management
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in H Process Safety/Risk fields after academic qualification
- At least 6 years’ of this experience should be in a tech risk PSM related consulting environment
- Experience in aspects of resource efficiency and climate change
- Commercial acumen, business development and project management skills
- Excellent leadership and communication (both verbal and written) skills
- Experience with using data and technology to support clients with Safety
- Willingness to travel
- Ability to work under pressure
