**A vacancy has become available for an HCV Underwriter in the Johannesburg Region. We are looking for a mature, dynamic, and motivated individual to accurately manage and control the allocated broker portfolio from an underwriting perspective**.

**Reports to: Johannesburg Regional Underwriting Manager**

**Job Purpose**:
Accurately manage and control the allocated broker portfolio from an underwriting perspective.
**Responsibilities**:
- Manage and control the allocated broker portfolio from an underwriting perspective.
- Jointly responsible for the Regional GWP budget and management of the loss ratio.
- Responsible for new quotes within set service level agreements or mandates.
- To place new business and bind in specific given timeframes and to forward for necessary Re-insurance where applicable.
- To involve the relevant divisional head when and where applicable in terms of quotes/renewals or new business including broker advice.
- Responsible for multiple claimant recommendations and to implement the action.
- Responsible for policy cancellations when due and to renegotiate terms and conditions of unpaid premiums/policies.
- Responsible for the workflow on the Internal system and for data integrity as well as ageing analysis.
- To be available for broker consultation or risk discussion externally or internally.
- To professionally and competently recommend various or alternative Inhouse products to the broker portfolio at quotes and renewal stage.
- Identify broker training needs and provide recommendations to the Regional Manager.
- To bind risks based on a given mandates and within product risk categorization.
- To identify specific risks within specific broker portfolios or individual clients.
- To be completely competent and confident in using the Inhouse system for all underwriting processes.
- To provide feedback to regional managers and Divisional heads on product developments/ shortfalls/needs and recommendations.
**Qualifications**:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a diligent and accurate manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Minimum 7 years Insurance experience.
- Relevant Insurance qualifications, minimum 120 NQF credits and completed RE level 4 preferable.
- Must be Risk conscious.
- Professional, well-spoken, and good attention to detail.
- Strong negotiator must have persuasion and problem-solving skills.
- Very broad general knowledge.
- Good understanding of Risk classification and geographical risk factors.
- Ability to adapt to change and to work under pressure and within short deadlines.
- Analysing business, profitability, and broker portfolios.
- Ability to work with various individuals with different knowledge, skill, and experience.
- Must be analytical and must cope with large work volumes and interruptions.
- Must be fully bilingual (speak and write)
- Must be technologically driven and comfortable with different operating packages including Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Word.
- Must be completely competent and efficient on In-house systems (training will be provided).
- Being able to work independently and remotely.
- Being able to sell the unique value proposition.
- Must be organised, demonstrate good time management skills and be able to prioritise accordingly.
- Must be a team player and creator of trust.
- Eager to learn, Assertive, Positive and Focused.
- Disciplined and principled.
**Knowledge**:
- Must have good working knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry and industry organogram including competitors.
- Must have good knowledge of Insurance legislation and compliance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Company's products and value-added products and benefits, including all classes of business.
- Must manage the whole Underwriting functionality from rating, endorsements, renewal terms/ conditions and cancellations.
- Clear understanding of internal claims process, procedures, and approach to claims handling.
- Being able to do risk analysis at policy level, and broker portfolio level.
- Know the company divisional heads and when to refer underwriting quotes/queries.
