**Background**
**Scope of Responsibilities**
- The focus of this position is therefore around the following three axes of activities_
- Support of the development of training initiatives within the scope of SAMU’s activities
- The more detailed analysis of learning needs in the fields of nursing care and nutrition, in both hospital and primary care.
- Where feasible, the development of and contribution to or delivery of training in nursing and nutrition
**RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FUNCTION**
- **
Evaluate learning needs in the realms of nursing and nutrition and where feasible, contribute to the actual implementation of such trainings in the filed or in Cape Town**
- In collaboration with other SAMU learning unit colleagues and SAMU country HIV/TB advisers and/or field project staff:_
- Perform detailed evaluations of the learning needs in nursing and nutrition in the SAMU-supported projects, especially in West and Central Africa
- Contribute to the delivery of field-based training initiatives in nursing and nutrition
2.** Design and develop SAMU HIV/TB clinical training materials**- Contribute to the development of training initiatives within the scope of SAMU’s activities
- Provide teaching and learning advice to colleagues for training interventions within the scope of SAMU’s activities, both face-to face and online
- Support the development of the corresponding training materials in French, as needed It is anticipated that most of this category 2 in the job description will happen in the home base in Cape Town
3. **Other Activities**
Administrative functions, including:
- Contributing to attending to the practical and administrative issues required in preparation for training interventions.
- Providing the corresponding documents for planning and reporting on SAMU mentoring activities, in collaboration with SAMU LU team. It is anticipated that most of this category 3 in the job description will happen in the home base in Cape Town.

**Professional qualifications**
- Professional nurse
- Education qualification is a bonus
- Training in clinical nutrition is a bonus
**Professional competencies: Know-how**
Clinical experience as a professional nurse is essential
Experience and skills in teaching and learning is essential
- ability to analyse learning needs
- design and development of education courses
- mentoring experience is a definite bonus.
Experience in low-resource health settings and in humanitarian work is preferred
Experience in the management of clinical nutrition is a definite bonus
**Personal qualities**
- Autonomous
- Diplomatic dynamic and flexible a capacity for taking the initiative and making decisions
- Capacity for analysis and summarising
- Ability to prioritise; ease with public speaking,
- Good interpersonal skills. Capacity to adapt his/her support to varying field contexts.
**Languages**
- Ideally comfortably bilingual, English and French (level C1 or 2) but lesser levels of language competence will still be considered
- Portuguese language competence would be an additional bonus (The detail of these(the C1 and C2 language categories are explained in the language knowledge table attached)
