POSITION: CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER (CIO) - PEPKOR IT

DEPARTMENT: PEPKOR IT

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
As the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and head of Pepkor IT, you will lead the IT team responsible for enabling and supporting the clothing and general merchandise segment of Pepkor group. You will work closely with the relevant stakeholders in the operating businesses supported by Pepkor IT, developing and implementing information technology strategies to support business goals. You will play a critical role in leveraging technology to enhance the operating businesses’ operations, customer experience, and competitive position in the market.

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:
1. IT Strategy and Planning:

- Develop and execute Pepkor’s IT vision and strategy in alignment with its long-term business objectives.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders to identify opportunities for technology-driven innovations and improvements across the organisation.

2. Technology Infrastructure and Systems:

- Oversee the management, maintenance, and enhancement of the retailers IT infrastructure, for which you have accountability including networks, servers, databases, and hardware.
- Evaluate and implement appropriate enterprise systems to streamline operations and increase efficiency, for example POS (Point of Sale) systems.

3. Cybersecurity and Data Protection:

- Establish and maintain robust cybersecurity measures to protect the retailers sensitive information, customer data, and digital assets.
- Implement data privacy and compliance policies in accordance with relevant regulations.

4. Digital Transformation:

- Support the digital transformation of the retailer, exploring and implementing new technologies to enhance the customer experience and optimise internal processes.

5. Financial Management and Resource Management:

- The role is accountable for the financial management and controls of Pepkor IT, IT spend in specified operating business as well as Pepkor owned assets.
- The accountability includes developing and managing the IT budget, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources to key projects and initiatives.
- Foster a culture and engagement within Pepkor IT that gives the appropriate results in relation to employees and the unit.
- Access appropriate skills, recruit, train, and mentor team members to effectively deliver IT services and projects in accordance with organisational and legislative requirements.

6. Vendor Management:

- Oversee relationships with external technology vendors, ensuring effective partnerships and timely delivery of products and services.
- Negotiate contracts and licensing agreements with vendors to achieve cost-effectiveness.

7. Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery:

- Develop and maintain comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure IT services resilience during emergencies.

8. Regulatory Compliance:

- Stay up-to-date with relevant industry regulations and compliance requirements, ensuring the relevant operating businesses’ operations adhere to legal and regulatory standards.

9. Stakeholder management and Influencing:

- Accountability for stakeholder management related to the function and specifically across the Group.
- Strong influencing capability is required to effect results across operating businesses within the Group.

10. Innovation and Research:

- Keep abreast of the latest technological advancements and trends in the retail industry, recommending innovative solutions to improve business operations

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in IT leadership roles, preferably within the retail industry or a related sector.
- Proven track record of successful IT strategy development and implementation, driving digital transformation, and achieving business objectives through technology.
- Strong understanding of retail operations, customer experience, and the challenges and opportunities faced by the industry.
- In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity, data privacy, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and manage cross-functional teams.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to align IT initiatives with overall business goals.
- Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills to address complex technology-related challenges.
